What can underwater photographers look for in the swamp?

in #photography7 years ago (edited)

I returned from another trip to the Valdai National Park. This year the sixth year of our cooperation with the Park has already started. And five years we dive there at about the same dates in June. In this regard, facebook was full of photographs-memories. Moreover, we go there by the same team each year.

Why do we go at one time? Because the weather is often decent, and the water has time to warm up a bit and clear after the winter and the melting of snow. Later, the water begins to bloom. And until the end of summer, there is simply nothing to do in most of our freshwater reservoirs, with a camera. True, I must say that this year because of natural fads and water was several degrees colder than usual, and with transparency there were problems. I think the temperature of water was about 12 degrees...

But this did not scare us and did not upset us. Fortunately the first day was quite sunny, so after a refreshing swim we at least on the surface felt comfortable. And the water in the place where we sank quite allowed to shoot at a wide angle. That is, the transparency of the meter was 3-4. Although with a good scenario before we could expect more.

But as we later saw, it was the best thing that we were offered for 4-5 days of stay. On the second day visibility fell by half. And this despite the fact that neither the rains nor any other cataclysms were observed. And a day later the water began to bloom actively, despite the low temperature. So it became even more difficult to shoot.

As a result, we all moved to the swamp. There was little water, but there were objects for shooting. I mostly worked as a dad that day, that is, entertained my 3 year old son. Everything went quite smoothly. We drove mosquitoes and ants, saving big black beetles, while his mother and another photographer was looking for sundew in a swamp.
It was not so simple. Find a plant about 5 mm in size a little less than a square kilometer ... it's more difficult than a needle in a haystack. Well at least we knew for sure that she was there. Thank you information from the staff of the Park.

But the main entertainment in this trip we had night dives. Previously, we could not manage to arrange a full night at the lake. After all for this at this time it is necessary to go into the water after 11 o'clock in the evening. Before that, the surface is still dusk and the fish does not sleep. And then the meaning of such a dive is lost. The
But this is already a topic of a separate story)
