Moraine Lake is located in The Valley of the Ten Peaks, Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada. It is one of the most photographed places in the country. The landscape is charming with the amazing blue lake that is surrounded by big rocks and trees. The mountains in the back covered by fresh snow are softly reflected on the water. The morning I took this image the sunrise wasn't vibrant, however the cloudy morning gave a nice mood to the final image.
Technical Details
- Canon EOS 6D
- EF16-35mm f/4L IS USM
- 16mm | f/8 | 107s | ISO 200
How was it Taken?
- This image was taken with a wide angle lens at 16mm focal length to capture as much as possible of the landscape.
- For optimum sharpness I used an aperture of f/8 which also helped with the long exposure by reducing how long the shutter needed to be opened.
- The total exposure was 107 seconds to get a smooth effect on the clouds and to avoid capturing disturbances on the lake (there was someone kayaking).
- The low ISO of 200 is crucial to reduce noise. This is very important when the image is going to be printed, especially for large size formats.
- The camera was mounted on a tripod and a shutter release was used. The camera was set to B (bulb).
- A 6 stop neutral density filter helped to reduce the light captured, enabling the long exposure.
- The image was captured in RAW and post-processed in Lightroom.
