Picture of the day #1:

With this post I'd like to introduce the first series of this blog: The picture of the day!

I've started taking photos a few years ago and it’s fun. So here I like to share some of my pictures with you. Most of them will be nature/macro photography. Nevertheless, as it’s called picture of the day I’m not posting one every day, but randomly when it suits best (and to fill the gaps while producing videos). :D The plan is, that every photo gets a short story or explanation behind.

And so here it is the first photo of the day:

Here you can see a honey bee, or to be more precise Apis mellifera. It’s the most common bee here in Germany and Europe. There are existing 25 subspecies of Apis mellifera, which is part of the genus Apis (containing 9 species worldwide). As the name suggests they are all producing honey, and so getting interesting for beekeepers. In the last years it emerged that a huge amount of bee colonies suddently extinct (also known as colony collapse disorder) and the causes aren’t clear yet, maybe insecticides or the well known Varroa mite. But I sure will get to this topic some day in a video.

See you later.
