Lahat ay kaya kung sama sama

This tagalong saying was proven recently. Since summer and all student were in vacation, our group, STAG or Sitio Tubigan Active Group gathered all youth in our sitio to help in a massive canal clean up. This will be our preparation for the coming rainy days. Luckily, a group called themselves as MONIO DEPARTMENT, pledged to help us.

** Early morning**

Around 7am, we gathered at the back entrance of our sitio near Jupiter School. Everyone brought their own broom and dustpan. I brought 30 pcs sacks that we’ve solicit from a bakery that we will use as trash bags. We cleaned the waste water ways at the side of the concrete road. Using shovel, the group cleared the canal of mud and other garbages. We removed the muds and other waste obstructing the flow of water in the canal. Everyone yells for joy every time we find peso coins beneath the mud.

Lack of discipline is one of the reasons why canals are clogged with different garbage. People continue to throw trashes everywhere. If only they know how to maintain cleanliness, we may live happily in a clean and healthy community.

2.jpgWater line pipes that are passing through waste water ways also made the trash accumulate and causes clogging. Owners of this pipes should realize that aside from causing clogs, it is unsafe or unhealthy for their family to drink water from it. Pipes may leak affecting the water to contaminate with unclean water from canal.

It is good to know that there are people in our neighborhood that are afraid of the negative effect of unclean surroundings. Some helped us when we are in front of their property. Some cannot help but gave us cold water, bread, sweetened banana and boiled cassava.
We are surprised when a store owner gave us a case of soft drinks when we finished cleaning the canal in front of her store. The boys were so happy while we are having our merienda. (Snack)

** At the near end**

Clean up drive continues. As we approached the main entrance of our Sitio, more people began to join and helped us. There are also some tricycle drivers who cheered the group for initiating the said clean up and gave some monetary help. We are so thankful for those who appreciated our efforts.

We also took that opportunity to appeal to our neighbors to help us maintain the cleanliness of our community. Living in a clean environment means living healthy with our family and loved ones.DSC03875.JPG

The end and the beginning

I believed on the saying that “A person with clean habits can destroy his/her evil desires and dirty thoughts very easily.” We hope that our little initiative continues. The small step that we’ve done can be a big step for fulfilling a dream of having a clean environment. Cleanliness should be a habit and not a work that should be done forcefully. We should never compromise it as it is as necessary as food and water for us. Every parent should teach their children to practice sanitation. We should understand that cleanliness it not only responsibility of our government however, it is the responsibility of each and every person living on this community.

To the young men Tricycle drivers, by standers, sponsors and neighbors who made this clean up drive a success, I am very happy and proud to all of you. Especially to the Monio Department. Our time as leaders of the youth has an END. It’s time for us to pass the ball to the new generations of youth who is more eager, more energetic and have better and new ideas than us. The BEGINNING of a new chapter of Tubigan Youth Organization has come. Dr. Jose Rizal said, “Ang kabataan ang pag asa ng bayan”. With this kind of effort by this youngsters, Dr. Jose Rizal must be proud. Mabuhay, mga kabataang may PAG ASA!

Thank you so much for reading my article. I hope that the spirit of BAYANIHAN will live on to the next generation. Cheers to life! All for HIS glory!
