There will be some challenges going forward with the autopilot technology. Self driving cars will be the norm down the road. Sadly we will have to go through the trials and tribulations (which will mean a few deaths) before we get there. Yes, it's a shame, because living in LA, I'm looking forward to self-driving cars. It would be irrational to think that no accidents will occur as the kinks are ironed out. However, there are accidents every day with people-driven cars. These accidents are part of the "norm" though, and so they don't stick in people's minds like a driverless accident.

The obsessive concern over self-driving car saftey and rules is ill founded and going to cause more deaths in the short term. Self driving cars have the ability to double or triple the capacity of out roads.
