50 years old, and jumping on the mining boat

in #oldmanmining7 years ago (edited)

Well I have finally done it, after watching all the you-tube videos, I have started building my first mining rig.
Have I a clue what I am doing mmmm simple answer is Nooooooooo.

So after getting a mother board from Ebay for £8 ( what a bargain ) and a couple of RX480's my toe has now been dipped in to the scary world of Crypto's.

I have learned a few lessons over the last week with my new beginners rig.

1: DON'T PUT IT IN THE LOUNGE As we had three days of sitting in our under wear watching TV as I turned the room into a tropical paradise ( yes they throw some heat out )

2: DON'T KEEP FIDDLING with it every 5 minutes as It will not make you money till you leave it alone.

3: AAAAAAHHHHHHHH Yes number 3 that should actually be number one, don't try to duel mine with a PSU that is too small for the job, as they produce amazing color's with smelly vision as they go up in smoke.

4: Try not to spent shit loads of money building your first rig in the middle of a crash if you are faint of heart or you have promised the missus you will pay her back as you have just maxed out her credit card on shiny new GPU's.

Apart from all that Yeahhhh I am now moving in the 21's century. and I made 5 quid this week LOL

Watch this space as I have now got the bug.

any advice would be truly welcome as well as donations of another 4 RX480's ( now there is hoping )

that s a good decision! Good luck!

Thank you, it got a bit scary at one point I thought I would have to go back to using Windows LOL

lol, I would love to start mining but I am not a technical person..

There are some great step by step guides on-line, the hardest part was installing the gfx drivers
as Ubuntu has stopped AMD support.
But again a quick search found a nice step by step guide.

check out nicehashminer, I use that as they pay in BTC and it is click and mine. Also use clayminer for Eth

Thank you, I have been using Clayminer with Ubuntu it seems to be a good system and to be honest not being a lover of Microsoft products it seemed to be the easiest to set up under Linux.

Also it seems to be paying out every 2 days in Eth this I am exchanging for EOS at the moment to build up a nice stash till Eth prices go back up

I will check out Nicehash though thanks for the heads up.
