Centre calls all-party meet ahead of Monsoon Session, Trinamool to boycott it

in #news7 years ago

The Centre will hold an all-party meeting at 11 am on Sunday, a day ahead of the start of the monsoon session of Parliament, NDTV reported. At the meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to urge the Opposition to let Parliament function smoothly, and outline an agenda for the session.
However, the Trinamool Congress, which has been at loggerheads with the Bharatiya Janata Party after a Facebook post spurred communal violence in West Bengal, will boycott the all-party meeting.
Eighteen Opposition parties arrived at a “broad agreement” ahead of the session to confront the government on matters including the Goods and Services Tax, demonetisation and the raids on Opposition leaders like Lalu Prasad Yadav. However, the parties will back the government on the standoff with China.
Sixteen new Bills are listed for introduction in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha during this session. This includes the implementation of the GST in Jammu and Kashmir, and a Bill to amend the Citizenship Act to allow certain illegal immigrants to get Indian citizenship.
However, Parliament may not transact any business on Monday owing to the deaths of MPs Vinod Khanna and P Goverdhan Reddy.bf6131f761cbf2705122e7b2bb1bf471.png
