"But what about the genuine websites? What about the wealth of knowledge and the intelligent conversations? What about the valuable information for data scientists? What about all things nice?"
Indeed. What about them? When the vast majority of people have a voice then rest assured that intelligent content won't be the top priority. The masses like to conform, aka circle jerk each other in order to reassure themselves. This is also how politics work. The more idiots one can round up and circlejerk against another group the more efficient the campaign will be. We are still apes.
Socialism was never a good idea because of this simple constituent: idiocy. Most people are not necessarily dump. They are just lazy who would rather turn on the autopilot and chase their basic functions that revolve around superstition, getting laid and having shiny things. In other words, willingly stupefied. People are extremely simple and social media do nothing else but exemplify this simplicity and convenience.
With no need to create something of substance, one can easily fake it and create a new persona. This is how everything turns to shit. I would bet you 100 bucks that if you met in person the whales of Bitcoin or Steemit or or or you would pull out all your money ASAP. The reason we are still in it is because everyone is creating a persona that is desirable, not necessarily real.
Nobody can deny that one can find really good content and have intelligent conversations. The problem lies with what one does with that kind of information and knowledge. One can use it to enhance their own abilities/understanding or even create something that will make the world a "better place" (whatever that means).
The point here is to understand the impact of that superior knowledge when applied onto the phenomenon of social media idiocy. Would it matter if we apply a "real" phenomenon in a valley of lies? Ofcourse not. It will get swallowed up and vanish almost immediately. If you are lucky then you might get some criticism but you will soon be forgotten. Aspire to the idiocy and push people's autopilot ego and you are set for success. As more and more people apply this strategy the entire social media space turns into a circus of wannabe pretentious idiots.
And we love it.
Idiots everywhere. I love this site which reiterated the fact:
http://www.darwinawards.com/
Am sure the idiots highlighted above are fewer than the ones out there!
Agreed. Just think how stupid the ‘average’ person is and remember that 50% of the population is more stupid than them!
Hhaha i cant argue with the facts.
And your personal game plan?
Is it possible to lessen the suffering of the herd? I think that it might be.
My personal game plan is withdrawal as much as possible from social media. I am on Steemit exclusively right now and I write more as a form of venting my thoughts out.
Ultimately game plan is cabin up north of the planet. Soon it will possible.
Take a left at Saturn, then straight ahead a couple of parsecs. I am sure you will find what you are looking for :-)
It is also an amoral opportunists' dream come true, but maybe that isn't new.
It is. Makes you think though. The entirety of human history has lead to this social pinnacle. Legit excuse for one to neck thouh self.
Well everyone has there fake mask on usually. That goes for the work place and everything else.
Right, right and so right...an ever-expanding circus of clowns and yes one does assume oneself with the glaring ignorance. Well said.
Social media is the voice of the idiots, but also offer them a court that is listening to them... So sad...
Incredibly true and sad
Very good post 😊
Literally!
It’s insanity
I was called a Russian propaganda bot on twitter yesterday just for disagreeing with people!
We are still evolving, nature chose us for a reason, maybe there is still hope.
The smart people are coming to steemit. :)
More like steemit is making people smarter 😁
That was my hope when I came here, but if you look at the trending posts you realize that it's not that different from other social networks
Yeah we need to defeat the bot users. I'm optimistic that eventually I'll be able to beat them. It might take me a few months though.
Funny Title, but highly important content. I went through it, and I must say that without social media and data life would be boring. Thanks for sharing this information.
the ones that happen that the more idiot you are, the more followers you will have in social networks, like that the person likes stupid things and the facebook and tweeter is full of that idiotece, everything is happy for those who love stupid things.
Hahaha 😂. Harsh truth. This is not just the case with social media !! Everything in the world works the same away. Everyone is a follower, only very few becomes leaders and even a less percentage of these leaders are genuine people.
What we can only do is be genuine ourselves. We cant change the world but we can change ourselves and a few around us. That would give enough meaning to our lives. :)
If everyone did that, collectively the world would change.
Yes exactly. We don't have to change the world. We just have to change a few people. That would be enough.
Yep, that's how the masses operate... Social medias have so many negative side effects on our psychology... People get addicted to getting likes, shares, basically some sort of recognition. And the ability to easily create some sort of new persona for yourself is not doing any good to the brain either. Idiocity rules the world...
^ hahaha
I've often wondered about, especially on steemit because money is potentially involved, what people are really like behind their keyboards, what they're really thinking. When I first joined steemit the thing that stuck me most was how (mostly) everyone was so polite to one another. After a while I figured everyone was on their best behaviour because if they were nice and said please and thank you they might earn a precocious upvote (meaning $$$).
Other socials don't have that direct link between your interactions and immediate dollar rewards, so you often seen the worst/dumbest of many... makes for a sad laugh though right?
if we knew what people thought on Steemit before typing then we wouldn't be here.
Bravo! Good post.
Nice post! Social media may have its demerits but in the same bein it has its merits also. I upvote you.
Lol i think you have just changed my mind on telling my FB freinds to join steemit
Lol, this why they need to join.
interesting info
completely right ;)
Haha , idiots. I get the point you making . When you meet persons outside social media in the physical. You notice an entirely different persona. Internet gangsters become mute, the prince charmings and princesses become ogres. In a sense, it provides users with the idiotic feeling of high self esteem. A feeling that washes off when you hit the real world.
Those masks worn have been shown to increase rates of psychopathy within our culture as well. Winning!
Exactly the point. A fear we have to live with
U should watch a movie called Idiocracy, here i will link you the imdb page http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0387808/ , it's a comedy about the future and how idiot ppl will be the ones to survive because they don't stop reproducing, while intelligent ppl only have 0-3 kids, there are dumb people having 10-20 kids
I have bad news. You too are just a slave to your basic functions. Why do you suppose you seek out "intelligent" discussions/content/whatever? Pleasure seeking behavior, with a bit of ego thrown in.
Unless you are discussing possible solutions to global warming, or whether or not man should visit Mars, what's the point? Is there really any benefit of "intelligent" discussion over what the latest Kardashian incident was or whatever? Probably not.
We derive pleasure from intelligent discussion. Others derive pleasure from other things. While the intelligent advance society, there's nothing wrong with being a normal person that's just trying to live their life, and enjoy it.
Who doesn’t like getting laid and shiny things?
Social media is a forum for the idiot wana be to get their imaginary 5 minutes of fame and a small superficial following. Facebook is a classic example. For those who wish to sacrifice privacy for attention it works. Everything that is said is permanently documented. I guess these folks do not have a life. We can find these same morons singing off key half drunk in karaoke bars. They are the pawns of socialism yet they would never live in a country outside of theirs where their socialistic dogma is standard. They are often airing the dirty diaper laundry of society and often become such. It is an example of how a century can change the fabric of a society. God help us.
don't be a bait dont be idiot thats it. thanks for this
