For months now, The Free Thought Project, Police The Police, The Anti Media and The Free Your Mind Conference dozens of other pages that I am affiliated with were unpublished from Facebook. According to an article from the LA Times, this was a concerted effort to wipe out "spam" accounts that post political links.
Next, Anti Media and numerous writers for the site got banned from TWITTER, showing cooperation between the two social media giants.
This signifies a re-consolidation of the media. Cable news media controlled the narrative for most of modern history, but the internet has lowered that barrier to entry and allowed the average person to become the media themselves. This obviously took market share and influence away from the traditional media, and it has allowed for a more diverse public conversation. Now it seems the platforms that have monopolized the industry are favoring mainstream sources and silencing alternative voices. So now, instead of allowing more people to have a voice, these platforms are creating an atmosphere where only powerful media organizations are welcome, just as we had on cable news.
People think that we are just providing an activist spin on the news, but they don't see the families struggling to have their voice heard. For example, when someone is shot by police, mainstream media sources often just republish the press release from the police department, without presenting the victim's side of the story. We give the victims and their families a voice, which is essential to keep power in check. This also goes for bigger issues like foreign policy as well; multiple full-scale invasions of Syria have been prevented because of information that the alternative media made viral.
Remember the supreme court case against the mormon passing out literature on company property. The company owned the whole town and SCOTUS ruled that the town is a public square. You cant suppress freedom of speech even if you own the public square. Use their words against them. They called their systems a public square. #infowarsarmy

More and more reason we need scale adoption of blockchain tech. Things like this won't be allowed if a decentralized structure is in place.

Fakebook is so over. These are the desperate actions of a dying empire. I would have left Fakebook years ago if it wasn't for my obsession with hillwalking and mountaineering. For the past few years I've used Fakebook to share pics of my mountain climbs, read about my friends' mountain adventures and chat about hillwalking and climbing.
But recently, even some of my hillwalking and mountain pals are leaving Fakebook, or just not posting so often. These are people with no interest in the alt media - there is a growing distrust of many of these corporate social media platforms. People used to think you were a conspiracy nut if you said that Fakebook was profiling you, or Google was tracking you. Now it's general knowledge. No one wants to be tagged any more. Many people don't even want you to take a photo of them unless you promise it won't be put on social media.

That's outrageous. You kinda know this stuff happens, but can't quite believe it, and then there it is. You must be pissed. Is there anything you can do about it? So sorry to hear years of work undone.

It’s also yet another reason why I barely do anything on Facebook and come here to Steemit way more often now.
I don't expect this trend of the control grid re-centralizing to reverse until crypto springs an equity leak big enough to threaten the hegemony of the USD. Most in the west are happy to be slaves as long as they get to play with their high tech gadgets. It will be too late for them when they finally realize that their gadgets actually played them.
However, more than half the world is still outside of the control grid of banking finance and the centralized technocracy that comes with it. This will be the generation that adopts crypto use and renders the digital panopticon Google et al have erected ineffective, but it will take time.
I understand that many rely on Google, FB, Twitter, etc... but the free thinkers should withdraw from participation on centralized platforms and allow all slaves to sit in their ignorance for a while. The opposition you create is being used as a distraction to keep the enslaved masses from realizing how enslaved they are by being entertained (while not taking you seriously enough). At this point, you're not going to reach your audience, and they will just use it all against you when they decide to dragnet those of us who spoke out against their injustices. Once you disappear, they will finally realize that they have been locked down. You can't tell them that they are slaves, they must be shown that they are slaves.

The wolves of Facebook finally show their teeth and they are using them to destroy freedom of speech instead of protecting it, what happened to the guys that made their slogan don't be evil, looks like when the tables are turned, they too turned authoritarian huh?

Oh man that's awful, I saw so many of the pages I started learning from on that list! What I'm surprised about was the "Get involved, you live here" page being unpublished. That page didn't get into the same material per-se that others did, at least the last time I remember looking at it.
The dinosaurs at these media companies are just trying to stay on the trend of relevance. I believe that revolutionary technologies like blockchain media here on Steemit are already changing the game entirely. None of those people can control the content on here. Some can come in and drop a boat load of money and downvote people, sure, but it would only be a matter of time before the community would downvote them and ruin their account value. Power of the people!
I think that we are on the precipice of a new information revolution; Wikileaks information and leaks being stored here on the blockchain for permanent record is just the beginning. While I certainly feel for the people affected, it only helps us in the long-run by removing people from that platform because of censorship, it also ruins their reputation in the eyes of people who are looking for increasing freedom of speech and expression not increased censorship.
Resteemed. More reason to get off facefuck and onto a decentralized SNS like steemit.
I guess the only way is to leave Facebook forever. People just need to stand up against this data tyranny otherwise things will never change. Steem is somehow a good alternative...try to convince your friends to join Steem...here is no censorship or what so ever.
It's hard to not think of a conspiracy when such a thing as this happens.
I'd have expected this from Facebook, but it's slightly more surprising from Twitting. It's also pretty crazy that something as large as antimedia would go.
This is a line I was hoping they wouldn't cross, I hope they get their heads straight quick and you get more attention than ever bud.
I always try to support you guys but now, well, I'm pissed so let me know if there's anything I can do to help my good man.
