Tallulah Falls - 1000 ft. Gorge 1.5 hr north of Atlanta, Georgia

in #nature7 years ago

At the beginning of the 20th century, Tallulah Falls was a bustling resort town that rivaled Niagra Falls, and people came from all over to see the waterfalls and the awesome gorge. Overlooking Tallulah Gorge, a 1,000-foot chasm carved over millions of years by the Tallulah River, is Tallulah Gorge State Park with an impressive Interpretive Center, gorge overlooks, hiking and biking trails and a suspension bridge.

To get to the gorge floor, you must have a pass. They limit passes to 100/day so if you go on a Saturday or Sunday, you must get to the interpretive center at 8:00 am! They will be given out in minutes and be gone by 8:15 am. You can still get on the gorge floor but risk getting a $110 fine for not having a permit ;-)

The hike down is not for the faint of heart.
There is a staircase, but its 1000 ft down. There is a suspension bridge at the bottom

Signs all around warn of flash floods. If you dont know the power of water, please learn before you go into a place like a gorge.

The main falls look like a waterslide....There are a series of about a dozen falls, as well as a swimming hole to cool off.

Tallulah Gorge has been kayaked before. Michelle, who joined us, had a father who had designed some of the kayaking routes during high water.

If you are an adventurer in Atlanta or anywhere is north Georgia, TN, Alabama, I highly recommend Tallulah Gorge for a day hike.

Get in good shape though, because the hike up the gorge is strenuous.

Thanks to all my followers and upvoters. Steem on everyone.

Steem is my favorite place to blog and read other's adventuring experiences. I hope to see them all one day in person.
