When It Rains, It Pours

There is nothing better than the unknown, it's basically what makes Christmas so magical as a child, not knowing what Santa has brought you.

That how it was when this series just popped up on Netflix, I noticed the trailer a few weeks ago in the recommended section of YouTube, but never watched it. I would love to only watched teaser trailers, but unfortunately then I probably wouldn't be able to continue this series, because some times the trailers give away far too much, and takes away all the mystery of the story.

The Umbrella Academy was a welcomed surprise, it's more seriously and feels a lot more like a film than a series. When it comes TV superhero shows it's been a slow and steady improvement, from Smallville to the Arrow and Flash series, then to the more recent Netflix Marvel shows like Daredevil and Iron Fist. Then at the end of last year we got Titans, which in my opinion set the bar for what these shows should be like, and if you haven't seen it yet, think Game of Thrones but in the superhero universe. Umbrella Academy is a breath of fresh air and feels similar to the 2009 film Watchmen by Zack Snyder for some reason. The series an adaptation of the comic book series of the same name published by Dark Horse Comics, and we can expects much more of these kinds of shows to come. Netflix is pumping millions into developing new films and shows that aren't super mainstream, like the Witcher live action series that is currently in development. This is well worth a watch, I'm about 4 episodes in and I've really enjoying it.

"On the same day in October 1989, forty-three infants are inexplicably born to random, unconnected women who showed no signs of pregnancy the day before. Seven are adopted by Sir Reginald Hargreeves, a billionaire industrialist, who creates The Umbrella Academy and prepares his "children" to save the world. But not everything went according to plan. In their teenage years, the family fractured and the team disbanded. Now, the six surviving thirty-something members reunite upon the news of Hargreeves' passing. Luther, Diego, Allison, Klaus, Vanya and Number Five work together to solve a mystery surrounding their father's death. But the estranged family once again begins to come apart due to their divergent personalities and abilities, not to mention the imminent threat of a global apocalypse." - Netflix
