Hereditary - A very depressing horror movie from start till end. Don’t get me wrong, it is a very solid horror movie with sufficient scares and surprising plot development that will make the audience clenching the teeth and at the same time, worrying about the fate of the characters.
It is a slow burn movie (read : plenty of talking) but with the sterling performances from all the casts (especially Toni Collete as the mother, Annie and Milly Shapiro as the daughter, Charlie) and the eerie sound effect and the scores, it is one of the best horror movie in 2018 (bearing in mind its Budget of merely $10mil). For me, it just came in second after “The Quiet Place”.
The big twist (or should I say revelation) at the end will take many by surprise but I foresee that many audience might not buy it and goes.. WTF? Anyway, just bear in the mind that the movie title is Hereditary...
Also, finally there is a match for the “clap clap” scary scene from the “The Conjuring”. In this movie, it is the sound of “tlok” (the sound made from touching your tongue against your upper inner gum).
