RE: CryptoTab - Google Chrome can earn you BTC now!

in #mining7 years ago

From the perspective of a GPU miner: I see no way this is actually economical in terms of mining rewards. CPU mining Bitcoin hasn't been profitable for years. The best ASIC's are increasingly less profitable due to the high difficulty of the network. This seems more like a pyramid scheme where you get paid for referrals way more than you ever could for mining, in other words, this is pretty much a gimmick. Maybe if it was mining a CPU mineable coin it could be a good idea, but now way I am risking my security by installing this app. Use a kill-a-watt meter to measure idle power draw of computer, then turn this app on and tell me it doesn't use more power. The only ones really making out are the developers using everyone else's electricity.

The pool is not mining BTC, it is mining Monero and exchanging Monero coins daily to BTC, so members can see their stats and be paid in BTC, the best-known cryptocurrency.@cryptounderdog, you haven't read about it anything, not even the intro from the Google App Store, but you feel entitled to put CryptoTab down and call it a pyramid scheme and a gimmick.

For the mining pool to be the most profitable to all members, it needs to be huge, it needs to have a big calculating power; and what's a faster way to accomplish this than to pay 10 level referral commission to its early members.

Its 10 levels referring s structure will be reduced in the future to fewer levels, and now they pay the extra bonuses from their own mining capacities without cutting down new members mining income. They are doing that in order to increase pool’s productivity as fast as possible.

And, this is working, the app was already downloaded by 83500 people and the posts and videos about CryptoTab (in many different languages) are everywhere. Just check here on Steemit ;-)

As to risking your security, I do not think this could be a problem, I am pretty sure the app had to meet strict security standards to be accepted in the official Chrome Webstore. In addition, the app does not conflict with most of the security and anti-virus programs run on our computers.

Last and least re the energy issue - yes, you are right, the computer will consume more power, but in this life is not possible to get something from nothing.
