The Quranic story of creation

The Arabs did not accept the creation story given in the Holy Bible. They did not believe in one supreme God. They continued to worship rocks and trees and they believed in the power of magic.

In the Arab town of Mecca,there was a trader called muhammad. He was also a camel-driver, who led caravans across the desert with goods to sell in other cities. In some of the cities he visited, he met hebrews and Christians. Muhammad found out about their beliefs in ome God and he began to wonder whether they were right.

Muhammad often went up to a cave in the moutains to think and pray. On an occasion when he was there, an angel appeared to him carrying a silk cloth an said to him 'Recite! ' Muhammad was not able to read. He was greater afraid and could only whisper, 'what shall i recite'? The angel answered 'Recite in the name of the Lord, Allah, who has created man from clots of blood'.

The angel told Muhammad that he had been chosen to be the prophet of Allah, the only true God, who wanted him to go and preach to the Arabs and stop them from worshipping trees, stones and other gods.

Muhammad started the religion of Islam. The people who believe in this religion are called Muslims. The things which the Angel told Muhammad are written in a book called the Holy Quran.

The story in the Quaran is similar to the one in the Holy Bible. It tells how God created the world in six days, creating man last after all the other animals. The man He created was called Adam and the woman He created was called Hawwau.
