Hello dear Steemians!!
Here we are again on the road around our beauty Catalonia, and today we will present you a village empty of history and architectural beauty. But this time we move to the south to get to Pals , a village of Baix Emporda. The population is about 2400.
It is one of the most visited destinations by lovers od architecture , of art and those who want to get lost enjoying the landscape and nature. Is preserved as a jewel kept in the Middle Ages , it seems that the mountains of Montgri and Begur wanted to protect this beatiful place of the challenges of modernity.
We started our adventure getting into the old town.
Before we reach the Town Hall Square , we find an ice cream shop where you can find a wide variety of milkshakes , waffles , slushes and natural juices..
At the end of the stairs we find a large square where we can see the Town Hall and the entrance to the Main street of Pals.
We enter to the Main street and along the street we can see all the luxurios mansions, while under the ground rests the Visigothic tombs that are more than 1000 years old.
We continue going into the old town and we don´t stop being dazzled by the architectural beauty.
We still see luxurious mansions adorned with beautiful hanging plants.
Ascending the same street we arrive at the church of Sant Peter built in the 10th century with the ashlar stones that once formed part of the castle. In the church you can appreciate the diverse architectural tendencies that make it : Romanesque, Baroque and Gothic.
Just after entering into the church , on the left we see a small vault where is a beautiful visualization of Jesus Christ.
Remodeled in the 18th century, the baroque squares can be seen in its façade . It is also worth noting the interior ribbed vault.
Leaving the church , on the right , we find a corridors adorned with a lot of plants , which leads us to the viewpoint of Josep Pla.
The viewpoint of Pals is the highest point of “Pedró “. His name pays homage to the illustrious writer, who on several occasiones immortalized the beauty of this place in his writings.
The viewpoint is the must visit place, from here we can observe the Medes Islands,
The mountains of Montgri,
And the snowy mountains of the Catalan Pyrenees.
Coming down from the viewpoint , we borderd the old wall.
This wall dates from the 12th century to the 14th , its open from the top to bottom on in the inside of the wall. Four towers of the same type are still preserved.
Leaving behind the wall and starting to leave the walled enclave , we met a realy nice grandmother of the village , who tells us a bit about the history of the place.
Outside of the old town we see the Restaurant Vila , located in front of the parking and the bus stop, where we can stop to rest and recover our strength before to go to the beach area.
Leaving the town we will see the well-known round of the boat, which indicates the direction towards the beaches.
We will have to travel 5 km (7 minutes by car), until the beach. On the way we passed through the village of Massos de Pals. The village is formed by a set of fortified farmhouses and a church dating from the 17th century.
Before we arrive to the beaches of Pals , we find a natural area, where we find the impossible forest, an adventure park dedicated to children and adults with a desire for fun.
After that we can visit “ Les basses d´en coll” , a place with great ecological value, where are developed a variety of microorganisms and also vertebrates. It is also an area of wetlands and rice fields where is cultivated the famous rice of Pals. Characterized to cook the casserole rice, typical dish of the zone.
Just before reaching the beaches , we enter to an area of tourist apartaments where golf lovers have the opportunity to spend a good day practicing this sport.
And finally we reach the beaches of Pals, which are divided into two. The “ playa grande” (big beach), where is the most tourist area with shops and restaurants on the beach.
And the beach of “Grau” , where you can enjoy magnificent views of the Medas Islands. This beach and beach of L´Estartit are separated by the mouth of the river “ Rec del Molí”.
We hope you decide to visit this magnificent place.
And don´t forget to watch our video on D.Tube of our visit of Pals.
