1. INTRODUCTION

Manifesto 1.jpg

WARNING!!!

This article contains some mature themes. Since this only covers content that is actually in the game itself, if you have any objections it would be to the actual game (and remember the developers for Jagged Alliance 3 have included the label "Suggestive Themes" under the "Mature Content Description"). Some people will find the in-game screenshots of NPC dialogue in this article to be humorous but if you are easily offended, you may want to skip this article.

Jagged Alliance 3 is known for its tongue-in-cheek humor. As part of its parody of capitalism vs communism, you may encounter Mr. Chimurenga and his communist Maquis, who are based in Pantagruel. If you are peaceful with the Maquis, you can choose to help spread their propaganda by sharing the Maquis Manifesto through dialogue with various NPC's. If you then reach 100% loyalty with Pantagruel, Chimurenga will retire and give you control of the Fosse Noire mine.

Distributing the Maquis Manifesto gets you loyalty bonuses with Pantagruel (and in some cases, Fleatown and the Refugee Camp).

Most NPC's will show minimal interest in the original version of the manifesto. But if you follow Maman Liliane's advice and include advertisements for Le Lys Rouge, then you will get much more colorful responses as the NPC's ogle the salacious illustrations.

This guide lists the various NPC's you can share the manifesto with and also includes screenshots of their humorous reactions.

2. POLITICAL PROPAGANDA

Manifesto 6.jpg

In its original form, the Maquis Manifesto can be shown to 8 NPC's for up to +20 loyalty with Pantagruel, +3 loyalty with the Refugee Camp, and either +3 or a net -2 loyalty with Fleatown:

NPCPantagruelRefugee CampFleatown
Bastien+5 Loyalty--
Boss Blaubert+3 Loyalty--5 Loyalty
Father Tooker---
Flay---
Ghost+1 Loyalty--
Herman & Martha+1 Loyalty--
"Hyena" Gilbert+1 or +5 Loyalty--
Lalee Leewaylender+3 Loyalty-+3 Loyalty
Sangoma+1 Loyalty+3 Loyalty-
Smiley+1 Loyalty--
Tim Turtledove---
  • You do not even have the option to show the original Maquis Manifesto to Father Tooker.

  • Flay gets offended, potentially triggering combat. You can avoid combat with a successful Wisdom check, but there are no benefits to showing him the original manifesto.

  • Tim Turtledove refuses to read it.

  • If you show the original manifesto to Boss Blaubert, you get +3 loyalty to Pantagruel but you lose 5 loyalty to Fleatown for wasting his time.

  • If you do not have a Scoundrel, then giving the original manifesto to "Hyena" Gilbert just nets you +1 loyalty to Pantagruel. But if you do have a Scoundrel you get access to a dialogue option to trick him which nets you +5 loyalty to Pantagruel and also $500.

3. NO SOLICITING!

Ranking the NPC responses from least amusing to most amusing we have:

4. SPREADING THE RED

After you first receive the Maquis Manifesto, if you show it to Maman Liliane, she suggests that you include some advertisements for Le Lys Rouge:

You can then try to persuade Chimurenga to accept Maman Liliane's idea:

Manifesto 5.jpg

There are 11 NPC's eager to sneak a peek at the newly illustrated Maquis Manifesto. This can net you a whopping +39 loyalty with Pantagruel, +8 loyalty with the Refugee Camp, and +3 loyalty with Fleatown:

NPCPantagruelRefugee CampFleatown
Bastien+3 Loyalty--
Boss Blaubert+5 Loyalty--
Father Tooker+3 Loyalty--
Flay+5 Loyalty--
Ghost+1 Loyalty--
Herman & Martha+1 Loyalty+3 Loyalty-
"Hyena" Gilbert+5 Loyalty--
Lalee Leewaylender+3 Loyalty-+3 Loyalty
Sangoma+3 Loyalty+5 Loyalty-
Smiley+5 Loyalty--
Tim Turtledove+5 Loyalty--
  • The Ghost and Lalee Leewaylender react exactly the same to either version of the manifesto.

  • Bastien actually gives you slightly less loyalty (only +3, compared to +5 for the original version).

  • If you have a Scoundrel, you get the same amount of loyalty with "Hyena" Gilbert but you can get an extra $500 with the original version.

  • If you really want to min/max, then you should show the original version of the manifesto to Bastien and "Hyena" Gilbert before upgrading it with scantily clad illustrations. That will allow you to get up to +41 loyalty (instead of +39) with Pantagruel along with an extra $500.

  • The NPC's you can give the manifesto to are generally those in the Savanna area, Pantagruel, and Fleatown. I haven't been able to give the manifesto to any NPC's on Ernie Island, Port Cacao, Highlands (Landsbach), the Sanatorium, the Jungle areas (Chalet de la Paix or Ille Morat), or the Farmlands (Wassergrab).

5. I READ IT FOR THE ARTICLES

In terms of entertainment value, here is how I would rank the responses to the updated manifesto. The merc comments are the cherries on top. Let me know if there are other mercs with witty responses:

6. RAISE YOUR GUN FOR THE REVOLUTION

Last of all, if you distribute the illustrated Maquis Manifesto, some of the random villagers and communists have some interesting things to say:
