BCL is considered as a solo artist that is deft at playing with her listeners’ emotions through love songs. So what if, for once BCL distances herself from the theme of love and dances to her latest single?
Collaborating with popular Indonesian rapper JFlow, the singer whose also known as Bunga Citra Lestari, has released a single titled ‘Dance Tonight’. This hip-hop dan EDM flavored song is sung in English and tells about woman power.
“This song is completely different as I am not anymore talking about love, at all. Through this song I feel that I can support other women to keep creating in their respective fields,” says BCL.
BCL says she wants to continue exploring through all the works she releases. ‘Dance Tonight’ is a breath of fresh air completely beyond of what BCL usually does.
JFLow does not just sing in this song, but the former Saykoji member also composed it. Differing from most songs released or produced by JFLow, ‘Dance Tonight’ can be felt slightly staged. Similar to songs we usually hear in animation soundtracks like ‘Frozen’ or ‘Moana’, the song was created to progress towards a fulfilling climax.
“I mentioned that previously I had already rebranded by music concept on the ‘Its Me BCL’ album. I had already collaborated with a DJ, so I was curious on how my voice would sound together with rap. Apparently, quite cool!” she adds.
You could say that BCL is showing a different side of her on this single. She sounds more enthusiastic and happy, without leaving behind her vocal character. Hearing BCL sing following a faster beat seems fitting and fun. JFLow’s rap segments blend well with BCL’s voice, where JFLow’s flowing rap charateristic matches well with BCL’s vocal power. Lyrics wise, there is no doubt about it - check out the simple lyrics at the front and the adorable ending.
