When Strangers Became Friends - Steem Meetup in Jaipur, India

I finally had a very little glimpse of what Steemfest must feel like as I attended my first Steemit meetup yesterday, held in Jaipur, which is one of the metro cities in India.

The event was organized thanks to the initiative taken by @firepower and I finally knew what it meant to meet Steemians in person; people who were only usernames on a screen before. Suffice it to say, it was special!

I have always truly believed that the Steemit community is unlike any other community on the internet. In fact, this has been evident to me since the very first day I started blogging here and although there were bumps along the way, my faith in the community remains unshaken.

This faith only becomes stronger when we meet these fellow community members in person and are able to know them and their life stories better. It makes you realize that people from all walks of life are able to come together and form lasting bonds and grow together, all thanks to the blockchain we all know and love: the Steem blockchain.

I doubt there is any other blockchain out there that can boast of a community as engaged as Steem’s!

The meetup was held at a place called "Tapri - The Tea House".

Anyways, so, since this was my first Steemit meetup ever, I was very excited to meet all these people that I had been following here and was looking forward to know them better. There were some who had been longtime users, some who had been on the site for more than half a year, some who had just joined and some were looking forward to registering.

Being one of the older users, I was able to answer some of the queries that the newer users had and the desire to get better and grow was something that I noticed was common in all of them. That’s how you know that we have something special at our hands.

It was not all about Steemit though. As it was an informal type of an event, we got an insight what each person was like in real life and some stories about their lives and journey so far. All this was augmented, of course, by the stunning venue, awesome food and tea. We Indians sure love our tea!

Upvoted.@sauravrungta - That is so cool. I hope I am able to attend a meetup like this next time. How was this organized? Is there a discord group or steemit chat room that I need to join to get to know about meetups?

Regards,

@vm2904

Yeah, it really was cool. It was organised by making an announcement post and then spreading the word through personal connections.

@sauravrugta - Cool. Perhaps the organizers can also think of discussing such meets on discord. More people can participate that way. I will keep my eyes and ears open for upcoming meets. Cheers.

That is great, I would like to meet more people that are on steem. Can't wait for next Steemfest.

It's awesome to put a face to a username.

This is so cool. Steemit is changing lives worldwide, so great of you taking it to more people

Look at all the happy faces! Looks like everyone had a good time. Good to know that everyone got to know each other in real life and share their stories :)

Indian Steemit Community is certainly growing in number (and Steem Power too ;)

It sure is and yes, in both ways :)

wow, fellow steemians meet up. It is always good idea in this platform. and nice to know there is someone like you who answer queries from the newcomer.

Meetups are real instruments for further growth and collaboration.

Nice to see so many Indian Steemians together.

I wish I could have been joined all of you.

I have been planning to arrange a small meet up in my city as well but I can't figure how can find and get connected with them. Any idea @firepower?

I'm sure there will be many more events like this in the future, across different cities. The fun is only now beginning.

Awesome... It's always good to meet people in person, especially when we spend so much time on Steemit. Now there will be a face to the Username :)

Exactly. These meetups make that Steemit bond stronger which is very necessary to build a lasting community.

Cool.. :) I hope you make more this :) Steemit help a lot as all :)

Thanks. Yeah, hoping too :)

You are welcome :)

good to see all the happy faces :)

yeah :)

did something like this in 2007 ... here is a write up I wrote in 2008, ie one year after the first meetup : https://www.flickr.com/groups/297126@N24/discuss/72157608412922828/

If we keep pushing, I am sure we can do better than what the above photography group did as here we have financial incentives as well. sustainability and making sure of motivation was a tough part with the photography group as we were all driven by passion and there was no returns for the efforts anyone puts.

Yeah, the financial incentives can be a real good motivator and that's why steem meetups all over the world have been successes. Hoping for a bigger one in the future.

true - more people on boarding will be good as it will create more opportunities and put the SP held into work. Just like the economic basics money put into work by more people can bring returns. Though I wish this sort of decentralized systems to do something to address our "missing middle class scenario" which was discussed by economist in the recent times.

Wow, this looks wonderful. It looks like I will have to keep skipping till the time I return back from states to India or perhaps we do some mini meet here :-) ... Great to see you folks together and kudos to your guys for organizing it.

You could organise one there too. I'm sure you'll find many users eager to meet each other there.

Well, I have started to find the right set of people around here or join some meetup which is happening here. In particular, is there any Discord Channel for Indian Community which can be joined to know how & where we all are located? If not, can we create one? It can help organize such meetups and also get to know where we are located in order to organize them.

If there are people located in PA, NJ, NYC area in states, I would love to step up and organize a meetup and learn & connect with them.

That's awesome. Yeah, there are at two channels that are thriving that I'm aware of.

Alright, will search for them and try to get in touch. Hopefully will be able to find some nearyby folks and have organize or part of some meetups here.
