The breeding: I said NO!

in #homesteading5 years ago (edited)

I was expecting Shizu to be in heat either the 4th or the 7th but no signs whatsoever.
Yesterday the buck started to show interest in her and threw in all of his charming buckiness.

Shizu however wanted nothing to do with him. She puts on her annoyed face and tries to get away from him. As far as I know nothing happened yesterday and she still doesn’t stand for him. Today the buck is being done with the nice gestures and gets a little more aggressive with her. He is right next to her and won’t leave her side. I noticed he didn’t touched his food last night and even this morning he was so focussed that he left the pellets untouched. The only thing he has eyes for is his stubborn lady.
(No worries he does eat a little grass every so often)

NO! There is that face again, lol

I am expecting her to reach her peak somewhere today. I am watching them like crazy. Shizu is a great milker with an awesome personality. She was a first time milker but stood still like a pro, never makes a sound, never breaking out/wreaking things or annoying, never nasty with trimming hooves or whatever.
She is like a VERY well behaved goat and I don’t ever have to tie her up with milking or walking cause she is right there with me.
Needless to say she is priceless to me. I am desperate to keep her line
(I want to add a bit more cream to the milk so next year is all about improving that).
That is why I am so focussed on breeder her.

Now her daughter Kimiko is a great goat too on the personality side of things. She has not produced any milk yet so we’ll have to wait and see. The thing with Kimi is that I don’t have the connection with her that I have with her mom. At this point I am not sure if she is gonna stay here forever. I am aiming for four milking does to keep over next winter so it mainly depends on how many babies are does. Then I’ll make a decision, Kimi and Ayumi will be in that same selection pool.
Shizu is a given, she gets a free pass!

It all depends.... will today lead to "victory"?I also had a great name suggestion for the buck by @galenkp who suggested Katsu (victory) as the buck's name.
