Day 4 of Corona Quarantine

in #homesteading5 years ago

So today was day four of my being home and not working due to the regulations of the virus. It has not hit us very bad yet since when I am home and not working I am in a pretty rural area where I don't have to see anyone. So far it has been great. We have plenty of supplies to last us an our livestock and have been getting projects done around the homestead. I could only imagine though people living in the city that are stuck inside their houses and can't leave getting a little stir crazy.

So the big thing I am working with every day is the fodder system to make sure we can feed our livestock during this time. It is very productive but doesn't provide all that we need to feed everyone so we still stock hay and grain for times when the system runs short. I have been doing some upgrades and went to using 10-20 trays so I can get a system going and get more production instead of just using the system as is. I would only be able to get 2 to 3 trays a day tops and the yield would not be as great but instead day 1 is a soak for the seeds. Day 2 the seeds are dumped into large brute containers to drain. Day 3 they are moved into 10-20 trays and the root systems is already growing. By day 4 or 5 they are moved into the system and then they have 4 days left before harvest. This gives me a few extra days grow period with grow lights so they get much better yield and I can harvest more channels a day giving me more feed for my livestock.

I am not sure why I cannot upload photos at this time. Maybe my internet is to slow.

Besides that we have been putting in raised beds to change the green house over to just starting seedlings to move and rotate into our raised beds. Once we plant them into the beds we will be replanting the trays with new seeds so about 4 to 6 weeks after they have been planted in the beds it is harvest and then the ones in the green house are already 4 to 6 weeks old and then they get move out into the beds. This gives us much better harvest with much less grow time between increasing our production out of less area. We will also be getting a harvest on out orange tree this year. It really flowered when I started putting some castings on it and the banana tree we planted last year has 7 pups growing we are going to split off into new areas along with a peach tree that will give a decent harvest this year. between all these we will be planting tomato plants, okra and jal peppers to harvest. It will be a very good year hopefully and with everything going on it couldn't come at a better time.

Still can't upload images.
