Just curious what the secret is to logging into Hive Engine. I've never done it before. I've been trying for days and all it does is spin once I've input my user name and posting key it asks for. I've let it spin for up to 10 minutes, hit refresh even. I've tried 3 different browsers (Firefox, IE and Chrome). Nothing works. I would submit a ticket, but it wants my full name and an email and not giving that.
Any one else had this issue and know of a workaround? I don't use the Keychain so was hoping to just be able to log in.
Thank you for any insights you can provide.
Hey, @practicalthought.
I use keychain, so I haven't used the posting key in Hive Engine to know what it's doing. I suspect it might need something other than posting key, but that is just a guess.
I've reblogged your post in the hopes that one of the actual humans who follow me will see it, and potentially have better answers.
I'd suggest going to the H-E discord channel and see if you can get someone to answer your question, too. I'm not a huge fan of discord, and I've had mixed results anytime I've tried to get technical questions answered, but it's an option.
Sorry, I couldn't be more helpful, but I did want someone to at least acknowledge this post, even if it was just me. :)
Hi @glenalbrethsen.
Thanks for the input. As you know from our previous talk over the years, I've never used the Discord, for many reasons.
Not enough time.
I don't trust it.
I always found it a bit weird having to go to another social media site to interact instead of using this social site, lol. Seems counterintuitive.
I wondered about it needing more than the posting key, although that's the key it says to input.
I've never used the keychain. In fact, I've never used any password tool like that, as in my ignorance I worry if my browser and/or the app holding the passwords is compromised it will compromise my passwords. I know many use them, but I am wary about letting any third party know or hold my passwords.
Thanks so much for reblogging. I'm hopeful someone will know the trick to logging in. I see people talk daily of doing so, but I think many (or all) of them are using the keychain. I'm wondering if manual login is disabled and they just haven't gotten around to deleting that option from their login page.
Can't agree with you more about Discord. It's a pain, and very seldom to I get any real answers there.
re: Keychain
I guess it's a matter of preference. I prefer it because I don't have to use my keys, and because I feel slightly safer doing it that way. Some people swear by it, others don't.
At any rate, you should be able to get into Hive-Engine regardless, or else they should specify.
If you’re using your phone you can log into it with hive signer. If you are on a computer absolutely get hive keychain. It’s far better and more secure than even using hive signer. The info is encrypted on your computer rather than on a server.
Thank you. A question please.
I just explained to Glen my concerns regarding password containers. I've never used one before. Without getting to technical, can you explain why you trust them not to get compromised by either the app holder or a hacker who somehow would get access to manipulating your browser?
The way I understand it is that the chrome extension encrypts the key strings with a password you use to unlock and sign transactions. The software asks for just your posting key or active key so it’s minimal required to do most things. If anything suspicious happens from hacking to your computer they can’t do anything on hive unless they know your unlock password for hive keychain. I don’t know if a key logger captures the password but it’s safer than broadcasting the transaction to a third party server that then signs it for you. I’m not too technical for this particular stuff but it’s safer in my experience! Less vectors of attack.
If you’re concerned with protection try getting the Tor browser or Brave. I use brave personally and it’s great with the upgraded security measures.
Thank you.
I would suggest using keychain. I seems to make everything so much easier and hopefully safer when accessing Hive sites. In there you could try changing the node you access it by. I have had the spinning wheel many times but a refresh seems to sort it. Things are still a bit glitch since the last hardfork and the nodes can sometimes be the issue.
Thank you. I'll probably give the keychain a try, and then change my password/keys after I'm done needing to access Steem engine. Appreciate your feedback.

Hey, @practicalthought. Just stumbled upon your last post here and remember you were one of the handful of good dudes I used to communicate with to some degree....
Hope there's some way u get this message. Maybe you'll come back to this platform or get in touch. Hopefully there's some better platform you've gone to. Hope you're in best health and perhaps are able to respond...
