The Hive community needs to engage with proposals.

in #hive4 months ago

After the splinter lands funding proposal was activated, I was worried that hive would end up loosing its largest onboarding mechanism.

The amount of money being asked for was a total of 2,777 hbd a day.
A number which is a tiny amount compared to the 230,717 hbd that the fund makes every day. The amount that is currently being funded with the amount from the splinter lands proposal is still under 20k. At the time of writing this the fund is spending 19,483 hbd.

The amount of money being spend is only 11.84% of the total made in a day by the fund. Now I want to make this clear before I continue, I don't believe we should be deficit spending on hive. I am very in favor of the fund continuing to build up for when a great opportunity occurs for the network, or a major event that we need to fund repairs.

As things are, we need to look at getting the existence of proposals out there better. And the proposals that are getting put out need to be supported in greater quantities to better utilize the funds we have access to.

To start with the current utilization of the hbd fund should go up as it is 20% is not a very large amount especially when the average person doesn't know what hive even is. The ability for us to make a good impression is very much available to do, but when you look right now the majority of the network doesn't vote for the proposals at all. Even if no new proposals are made, just making more people aware that proposals are a thing would be a great help to the network. If the amount of people who know about the proposals grows, the likelihood that any individual good proposal gets enough hp votes to promote the network, or improve the network.

On the topic of a low amount of participation is the splinter lands proposal, From what I was hearing they needed to get votes from 15% of the hp on the network. The majority of the hp votes that they got came from account with over 10k hp staked, and a considerable amount came from accounts with over 100k hp. I can say with confidence that the majority of splinter lands players didn't even know that the proposal was even a thing, let alone the majority of the hp on the network.

Although I can't say I can immediately think of solutions to this problem I'm hoping that this post will lead to some thinking about the problem.

This post is only being made to make sure that people are aware of the issue that I think is currently a major problem with the proposal system. I'm not here proposing any solutions, as that would require far more time thinking about this than the dozen minutes that I spent thinking about how to write this post.
