Believe in something - Bhagavad Gita ch3:25

The popular rally cry currently in crypto trading circles is "believe in something" which is a follow-on from the old favorite "hodl" (hold).

And trending memes and coins are becoming advertised as cults, with followings along the lines of a church.

In other words, coins are currently being promoted as a religion, with profit as the heavenly goal.

Traders no longer look for prices to go "to the moon" but rather "to Valhalla". Memes and themes change with each cycle, and now the themes are talking in religious connotations, as money and profit is worshiped as the equivalent of heaven.

Even the ancient Wisdom describes how for the poor, food is heaven. And today we see how for the poor of perspective, money is God. And your crypto coin is an avatar.

This is particularly so right now in this current 2024/5 bull cycle, as I write this. Thanks to the arrival of AI agents on the blockchain, with their own wallets and a certain autonomy not seen before.

Now these inanimate robots, or computer codes of software, are promoting themselves on X Twitter and other social media sights, as the avatars of the new church, the high priests, the prophets of profit.

And human nature, with its innate tendency to follow, to need something to believe in, is being led, among the young traders of today, into a worship of money.

It's cementing attachment to money, something the ancient Wisdom clearly warns against.

That's the direction of civilization in these modern times where things are inverted and the trivial is deified, while the Divine is trivialized.

It grooms the new generations for sorrow, in the form of hankering and lamenting, and forgetfulness of the real goal of life, namely to be detached from the temporary allure of this world, despite working hard to engage with the very same material energy.

It's not so much the engagement with matter, as the attachment to it, which needs to be refined if one really wants to stay peaceful and happy in this material world because regardless of how much gain we experience, the same amount of loss occurs when we're forced to leave it all behind at death.

Better we are taught detachment, while still chasing profit day to day. It's a win-win formula but most only learn it the hard way through the school of hard knocks.

Bhagavad Gita ch3:25

saktāḥ karmaṇy avidvāṁso
yathā kurvanti bhārata
kuryād vidvāṁs tathāsaktaś
cikīrṣur loka-saṅgraham

SYNONYMS
saktāḥ—being attached; karmaṇi—prescribed duties; avidvāṁsaḥ—the ignorant; yathā—as much as; kurvanti—do it; bhārata—O descendant of Bharata; kuryāt—must do; vidvān—the learned; tathā—thus; asaktaḥ—without attachment; cikīrṣuḥ—desiring to; loka-saṅgraham—leading the people in general.

TRANSLATION
As the ignorant perform their duties with attachment to results, similarly the learned may also act, but without attachment, for the sake of leading people on the right path.

PURPORT
A person in Kṛṣṇa consciousness and a person not in Kṛṣṇa consciousness are differentiated by different desires. A Kṛṣṇa conscious person does not do anything which is not conducive to development of Kṛṣṇa consciousness. He may even act exactly like the ignorant person, who is too much attached to material activities, but one is engaged in such activities for the satisfaction of his sense gratification, whereas the other is engaged for the satisfaction of Kṛṣṇa. Therefore, the Kṛṣṇa conscious person is required to show the people how to act and how to engage the results of action for the purpose of Kṛṣṇa consciousness.
