Most of my mornings start with coffee, but the weekday mornings are a little different. The coffee isn't necessarily better (or worse) but it's paid for my my company and I get paid to drink it. That's a win right?
I'm fortunate to have almost total autonomy in my role; that means I can do what I want when I want to do it and the up-chain (the State Manager) leaves me to it. The work has to get done naturally, I need to perform, but I'm left to it and am able to be incredibly flexible with my time and whereabouts. This situation has occured because I'm trustworthy, productive and never (ever) shirk my responsibilities. It's not a perk of the job, it's a perk of my hard work, effort, results and the fact I'm a professional operator. It's an earned right.
I come to a cafe, usually the same one, and have breakfast or just coffee; it's a nice way to start the day, a softer, less confronting method, than arriving in an office and getting the whip cracked on my back; there's just coffee, and bacon and eggs.
I open my laptop, review the days' appointments, make some calls to confirm (I confirm every appointment I go to) and send emails based on happenings overnight and attend to any situations that may have come up. I'm in trucking, logistics and transport so it's almost a guarantee that something came up, it's intrinsic. I find it's a really productive way to begin the day, it sets me up for the rest of it. Sure, I can do this from home as I generally use my home office over the work office but there's something more relaxing about coming here and it makes me feel like I'm working, but not working.
Speaking of working, I've got to get moving soon as I have a meeting with a client, a national steel manufacturer, and have to be on my game so...one more coffee and I'll be on my way but before I go...
Do you have a favourite way to kick-start your working day? A routine or habit? Feel free to comment below.
Design and create your ideal life, don't live it by default - Tomorrow isn't promised so be humble and kind

Gotta be great to be in a place where they're smart enough to realise that people can and will actually do their jobs and do it well without being micromanaged :)
Indeed, it's something I stipulated before I took the role. If it was to change, I'd be gone. The State Manager knows it, and acts accordingly. He and I are similar in fact, and we get along really well - A pretty good team I guess one could call it.
I hope you're well and you have a good weekend.
My day mostly starts with cereal and maybe a banana or apple. 😂 Then I'll probably have a cup of tea when I'm at the office. But after getting home, when I'm "relaxing", that's when I like to enjoy some coffee, whether it be home-made or at a nearby café.
That sounds like a god start to the day. Do you do anything in particular to increase your productivity over the day?
I'd say a little break works just fine; 30 minutes elsewhere, whether it be going for lunch somewhere or a little power nap. If I know that it's going to be a long day ahead, and I need to be at the top of my game, then that little power nap and a cup of coffee or tea surely do help me stay in form.
Top-of-game status is where it's at for sure, but we all need to recharge too.
My recharge sessions are with friends or family, a weekend hangout does the job. Even a post-office coffee break is quite therapeutic.
I think that's a perfect way to start the morning. My morning also starts with coffee and I don't function too well without it to be honest. Then I often have a morning phone call and get started with my day. How your morning goes tends to affect everything thereafter so starting out well is always a good plan.
I agree, what happens early sets the tone. I suppose it's important to know how to make an adjustment were it to start poorly as wasting the entire day due to something that happened earlier isn't always so good. It's not always that easy though right?
It's not always easy but it can be done if you set your mind to it and try to shake off or resolve whatever happened. Sometimes it can be damn near impossible I know, but then there's always tomorrow to reset and start again fresh.
Until there isn't.
Hmm I am not sure if it's a favourite way... For me, I usually check the news to see if anything major happened, be it current affairs or the financial/crypto markets. Lol.
I avoid the news at all costs as it is simply corporation and government propaganda designed to lead people into thinking a particular way rather than for themselves. But I know a few who watch it. I guess I feel there's better ways to see the relevant and factual information.
Unfortunately. I don't drink coffee. However, my day starts with a hot chocolate and pandesal (a traditional bread in our country, eat in the morning). Do some stretches, shower and go to school.
That's a good way to start the day indeed! Tell me, is there a particular reason you don't drink coffee? I'm just curious.
Um, it's because whenever I drink coffee, I palpitate. But when the coffee has milk, it's just regular coffee. I don't feel anything.
My dad never used to drink it because it kept him awake. I know a few others who do not drink it for the same reasons. I tend not to drink it in the evenings, say, after 5pm, unless it's decaffeinated.
It's good that we're all different right? If we were the same things would be boring.
Living the dream, I have something similar although of late my mornings are made up of the getting kids ready, school rush. I'm thankful for my flexibility and the ability to work flexible.
Although my job is demanding and I spend more nights working back than not. But it is a great job and I enjoy it.
I don't like working after work hours, did it for a long time, don't want to do it again. I'm lucky that my day starts and finishes (generally) inside if work hours and anything outside if that is minor, a text or quick email.
I'm enjoying what I do really, the flexibility, although there moments of stress and a lot of pressure. Trucking and transport is full on. I get rewarded though, and the autonomy is valued. I think you'd say the same.
Yup, the autonomy is great you don't have this feeling of someone hounding you or micro managing you. Stress plays a big role in leaving work places and the less of it, the better
You're post almost read like the intro to a resume at a point.
Hey, it's Friday and now I'm finally ready to go to work. The last four days seemed like just an illusion. That illusion was broken today by getting a full night's rest and an early breakfast with a cup of Kanu the best instant coffee I know. I don't risk brewing coffee in the morning because I will usually spill or break something. Have a great day.

Resume-posts are a good idea...I might do a #weekend-engagement topic asking for them sometime.
I have a Nesspresso machine at home, it's easy, the coffee is good and it's repeatable. Keeps things simple. I like the cafe thing I mentioned in this post though, starts things off gently. Lol.
I hope you're well, and the run into the weekend is a good one.
Mine starts with a cup of tea and some adaptogens to help clear out some of the brain fog.
Annabelle 👩🏫
I like tea, English Breakfast tea mostly, but I'm an Earl Grey man also. I admit to drinking more coffee than tea though.
Morning brain fog is a reality, hopefully it clears up though right?
I realize when we are productive with a routine that is followed at least in my opinion there is a sense of joy I feel when the day starts. A lot of the times when things go as planned its when I can kind of set things in auto-pilot and observe what's going on in my life. But its those times when things go wrong is where roles come into play. I actually love when things go wrong, its when problem solving gets me excited. :)
There is no such thing as a free lunch... in the work force everything is earned. And when earned it feels good to confidently stand tall and showcase who we are to others around us. It may inspire others and also some few might be jealous of the earned perks, but nevertheless it creates synergy in the work environment which I believe is very important to create a dynamic work environment with positive productivity and have a competitive edge... these all require some hard kick ass work.
I totally feel you Galen!! and I can read it through your words, you for sure earned it and keep up the good life and kick some ass when needed. Cheers. :)
Problems, challenges and failures can inspire many things in people, the best of which is the desire to re-evaluate, strategize and begin again.
Before I go to work, just like you, I drink coffee, but it is only at home. How I wish cafes in my place opened at 6 am. After drinking coffee, I then do a simple walk outside my business as I take a deep breath and do some warm-ups. My salute to you, Sir, for being so productive every day because of your continuous hard work. !PIZZA
I'm lucky, I don't have to go to work at 6am...This morning I hit the café at 08:30 and left at 09:30 for my appointment. But, no matter what time I get up, the day starts with coffee.
How I wish my work starts at the same time as your work, Sir, Hehe. But you know I am like a sleepy pumpkin, but good thing there is coffee at home; I am coming to work with bigger eyes, wide awake. Have a great day, and enjoy every coffee at the most comfortable place. Keep safe always.
Lol...well, don't sleep away the weekend ok?
That’s really a good advise, Sir. Hehe. I so love weekends. Thank you so much, Sir.
I envy how you can easily access already made coffee but over here in my country it isn't.
Yeah, Australia is a pretty legit place with everything at our fingertips. I'm so fortunate to have been born here; it's one of the best countries to live in, although the cost of living is very high.
But it's worth it.
Coffee has certain characteristics and a taste that is unbeatable with other coffees. As I see, you really like coffee like that. thanks for sharing with us
No worries.
Yes thats true @galenkp. Im a coffee lover too! My day is not complete with out coffee.
What would life be like without coffee do you think? What if you never had the chance to drink it again?
Hahaha! I'll find ways!!
Most common scenario in the morning is through drinking coffee or milk. I prefer drinking hot chocolate or milk while eating breakfast. But the aroma of coffee is really fragrant and enticing. Hehehe
It sure is.
I don't drink coffee, but tea. I start my say by getting some fresh air on the balcony and doing some stretching. If still have enough time, I'll do yoga and meditation. That help boost my mood and be positive at work ,😁
!PIZZA
What a nice way to start to day! Do you find you're more productive because of it?
I find myself more active and not sleepy haha..

As I told you I love starting my days with a good breakfast, in Italy we traditionally don't eat salty foods, I have a nice cappuccino or a cup of milk with cereals and I make various types of croissants, the one I like best is with walnuts and maple syrup. Then I prepare breakfast for my wife even though she usually only drinks coffee. Cell phone off limits for the first half hour after waking up. Starting the day like this relaxes me a lot. I'm trying to wake up a little earlier to start a habit called "golden hour"; have you ever heard of it?
A phone free morning routine is a good thing considering how much time we spend on devices these days. I like the sound of your breakfast...I could eat croissants all day! Lol.
I also know what golden hour means and, as I am usually up fairly early, I get to enjoy it. My city is on the coast (Adelaide, South Australia) and so I get to watch a lot of sunsets from the beach also.
https://www.australia.com/en/places/adelaide-and-surrounds/guide-to-adelaide.html
I was born and raised in a small town in the Barossa Valley, a famous vineyard and wine-making region, not unlike Tuscany actually, and my heart is away from the city and in wide open spaces, but the city is where I work and it's good too.
I too love open spaces, but I believe that a good compromise can be found between this and the city. "The golden hour" I think is a very good habit, I have to be able to make it permanent in my life.
