a visit to Popes Island Marina

a visit to Popes Island Marina

Havent been out for many recent walks so going through my photo files and finding shots i had not got around to editing and sharing and came up with these shots from a visit to POpes Island Marina, which is on Popes Island as the name suggests and is part of New Bedford but you cross the island to get to Fairhaven a neighboring city.

The reason I was able to go out onto the docks of the marina on this visit was the replica ship Nao Trinidad was in port and hence they were allowing visitors onto the docks, normally its just for members

you can see it in the background in this first shot

There is no shortage of very nice boats docked at the marina, I love seeign all the nice boats and do imagine going out for a day onthe water on some of them, but I have never considered buying one, for one my wife is afraid of boats after a couple of experience when she was young so she would never go one one, and secondly I have heard horror stories of the expenses of owning a boat

You know what BOAT stands for, right? Bring Out Another Thousand

I have also heard that the two happiest days in a boat owner’s life is the day they buy their first boat and the day they sell their last

and thinking about the costs of having a bost I wondered how much it costs to dock in this marina and found the following

docking at Pope's Island Marina costs around $2.75 per foot for a daily stay, with a seasonal slip rate of $90 per foot with a minimum of 30 feet
now i ma not sure what the average length of a boat is and hence now sure what itwould cost to dock there for a while but to me I imagine it would add up very quickly, and then most seem to come out of the water for winter and get covered up so that would be yet another cost

Some more nice boats

From what I found online the marina can handle 210 slips, 25 moorings, and has 300 feet of linear docks:

I always liked boats, but they are really expensive, also, as you mentioned, the maintenance is really very expensive
Beautiful photographs, I love the boat in the last photograph
Have a beautiful dayHello dear friend @tattoodjay good day

Thanks kindly your support is appreciated

Have a great day

The Nao Trinidad is awesome! Boats have never interested me as far as ownership because they are money pits. Just like you said, best days of boat ownership are the day you buy it and the day you sell it. In-between the two there's a whole lot of bust out another thousand... lol

Beautiful shots in there today!

Have a great day

I'm guessing a lot of it has to do with the size of the boat. Those big boys can be quite expensive to buy run and maintain. A nice little bass boat for fishing boat probably isn't too bad though!

thats a good point you make,

The marina looks so peaceful, and those boats are so cool—I can only imagine what it’s like to spend a day out on the water.

Great shots really

I love ships.

Here I am trying to figure out how much money that marina pulls in every season...
