Likely you have seen some of Yayoi Kusama's work in your life, be in a large pumpkin, a huge glassed room or so other piece.
She is a 94 year old Japanese modern artist, Interesting she is the Highest selling Female living artist, although I have to admit I don't understand when we starting judging artist merit by sales numbers.
I have seen her work a number of time, first in Japan on the islands of Naoshima and Teshima Island but also in the NGV in Melbourne Australia. We had not gone to Bilbao to see this exhibition, but it was a fantastic surprise when we arrived at the Guggenhiem (the reason we were there) to find a major exhibition of her work on.
he work is colourful, abstract, often installation works, using patterns. As an Australian I think there are a look of similarities to Aboriginal Australia artwork, particularly dot paintings, although with Kusama's work the colours a modern, bright, shiny, whereas in tradtional Aboriginal work they are the colours of nature, often derived from nature.
I present here a view of here her work, not a simple capturing on the full work, if you want that, go experience it, but rather tiny view of the patterns, it is these patterns which make up the larger work but it is also in these patterns that the beauty exists.
