My morning started briskly, as I stepped out onto the terrace for a quick round of stretches under a nice cold sunrise on this dia de los muertos. The chill nipped at my skin, the temperature was uninviting. Even on my short morning walk with a light drizzle, the cold wind cut through, making the quiet banks of the River Spree feel a little more deserted than usual. On my way I caught sight of the heating plant, the once-mighty structure now reduced to just three raw concrete towers, standing like forgotten sentinels against the sky. The demolition crew worked away, even on a Saturday, taking down what was left of the building bit by bit. It reminded me of how quickly things change, how once-familiar landmarks fade, leaving only memories in their place. Later, I cycled over to the weekly market, weaving through familiar stalls for fresh food to stock up for the weekend.
