I am not very adventurous with sea food. Give me some fish and I’ll be happy. Last Friday , the English department had our welcome / goodbye 👋 dinner. It was held at a sushi 🍣 restaurant. Yours truly should not eat too much sushi so special preparations were made for me: a dish of sashimi.
I tried everything on this plate except the shrimp because I already know that wouldn’t sit well with my stomach. Some of these were a first. The sea urchin aka “Sea egg” in Jamaica 🇯🇲 was the most shocking. It had the taste of the ocean and sand. I will not be having that again. Some things were manageable because of the Shiso leaves, soy sauce and wasabi. Wasabi is Japanese horse radish and it packs a kick 🦵 taste wise. Unlike pepper that burns the tongue and lips wasabi gives a burning sensation through the nose. Strangely, I’ve grown to like it. Apparently it helps to prevent food poisoning from the raw fish.
This scallop wasn’t bad , thanks to the “Gari”. Gari is the pink thing on the plate. Can you guess what it is? It’s actually pickled ginger, I really like it and often eat it with things other than raw fish. Below are other things that made it to the table but not necessarily to my mouth.
Who would have thought that the day would come when I prefer raw fish to cooked rice. Stranger things have happened. Until next time - this has been another indelible-vibration.
