Meandering A Sub-Tropical Beach
Heat is up, beaches become busy with holiday makers streaming to the coast to find reprieve in the Indian Ocean waters, not too cold but cool enough to enjoy most time of the year.
Photography is my own, some has been used previously in older posts, some interesting things seen and enjoyed once again on our local beach.
Bluebottles or The Portuguese man o' war (Physalia physalis), arrive in strong winds during warmer months of the year (like now). Don't swim they arrive when strong winds blow bluebottles into the shoreline, they do have a nasty sting (watch where you walk as well).
Heron footprint in the soft sand made for something different when meandering along the beach.
To me beaches are fascinating how some plant life survives, assisting the sand dunes hold together, build then along come a high tide or strong wind to change the pattern of the dune, while plants try desperately hard to hold the dunes in place.
Most unusual sighting was the Flame Lily flower hanging in on the sand dune a couple of years ago, once and only time I have seen this plant on a beach.
Once again I mention these photographs have more than likely been used previously on the old platform or in previous content, these are purely to place them into one space, on the beach!
Have a wonderful new week and thanks for visiting.
Above the dunes 2006 top two pics, after Spring Tide 2007 beach cleared of sand, a week or two later due to winds the lagoon ran up the coast. This has now all changed once again and the dunes are slowly building once again.

Very nice weather, here we are gearing up for snow and fighting off tornadoes. Can those manowar still sting after they've been dried out on the beach?
Yes the bluebottle can sting when beached, sometimes beaches will be closed when large colony arrive on the wind.
Beaches are indeed beautiful from her calmness to her cool breeze. That why I love her,
Ever changing in moods, makes one realize how much a beach changes over time.
Looking at this Bluebottle thing, I don't think I would want to touch it anyway 😨
I love the low angle photos looking through the plants and the Heron footprint looks cool 👍
Wishing you also a wonderful new week, Joan 🌞

Bluebottles are found in many places, I know Australia and many beaches in America get these floating stinging bodies arrive on the winds. Idea is not to touch 😅
Footprints always fun when not near the waves, hold their pattern in the soft damp sand.

South Africa always looks so beautiful, I was hoping I would get to visit this year but plans changed, maybe I'll visit Zanzibar instead, I hear the water is prettier there.
Africa is beautiful, safe travels and thanks for visiting.
Great post and I guess the weather is condusive as well
Summer hot, winter not, I do prefer winter from May to August. Thanks for visiting.
I always find beaches enjoyable and relaxing @joanstewart, my eyes always wander to the little things like the sand and the flowers etc. Your sand is courser than the sand on the surf beach across the road. But I have never seen a heron footprint on my sand, I love it. I was intrigued with your Flame Lily flower, we have the smaller weeding ones growing profusely in our garden. They have to be pulled out or they will take over. Regards
Some beaches are fine like baby powder, the granular beach makes easier walking conditions. Change happens every time you go with ever changing moods and flow.
Flame lily must have been washed down the river, then pushed up on high tide or wind to end up on the dune never seen them on a beach.
Have a wonderful new week and thanks for visiting.
And I agree, soft dry sand makes for a hard walk, give me coarse sand and wet packed down sand anytime.
Happy mid weekI love the constant daily changes on the beach @joanstewart, it is not possible to get bored!
We wait for a couple of days rain then go to the beach to enjoy walking, soft sand underfoot is not so pleasant. Enjoy the beach next time you get there.
Hahaha, yes the blue bottles got me a few times, but not as bad as one of our lecturers at Papillon as she stepped onto a big Manta Ray in the shallows and he got her in her right foot. Hospital case and battling to walk for a few weeks now.
Nature changes the beaches constantly and recently the stormy seas opened the sandbanks that blocked a river in Kleinmond. So now after a few years the river is connected to the sea again.

Bluebottles and bee stings along with odd wasp in the lawn when barefoot on beach or in garden, do the highland fling blurting words of wisdom. Hope your friend feels better, only time I have seen what we thought was a sand shark was my son and one of the dogs romping shallow sea, both took off when it moved underfoot, it was pretty big.
When rivers break through it is healthy for sea life and rivers.

I used to swim often in the sea during our annual holiday time in Durban and yes, blue bottles were always a problem.
Strangely I can't remember any on the beach in Mtunzini?

Hahaha, now why does this sound so familiar. mewonders?
This time round it was the sea that broke through and pushed up the river.

Bluebottles only arrive on the wind, not always very intermittent.
Good the sea breached into the river it helps the fish life breeding grounds normally.

Well we are known here for some very serious winds and I will check the blue bottle statuses on the cape's shorelines.
Oh yes and that's what they are happy about as restoration is on everyone's lips.
!WINE
Sure you will have them down the coast possibly more variety between East and West Coasts....
Haven't had time yet to check it out, but I am sure that you are right.

Shakespeare puts it one of his character's mouth in one of his play, it says:
Those eyes have seen alot but my hands are empty
:) I really enjoyed it, and i need to see alot more of them too 🙂Never able to see everything, always looking for more, totally agree as my Mom always said "Feast Your Eyes."
