Decorative Pencil Holder From Recycled Materials.

I am excited to share another DIY project in the DIYHUB community.

Sometimes last year, I gave my neighbor's little girl a pencil holder made with carton, and she really loved it. Some days ago, she told me that her little brother had destroyed the pencil holder, and I was surprised she still had it.

I felt touched because I never thought she valued it that much. I thought of making something stronger and prettier, so I came up with the idea of using strong plastic this time. I got the materials I needed for the new pencil holder and swung into action.

Materials used;

• An engine oil container
• Carton
• Gloss paint.
• Evostick glue
• Cardboard
• Scissors.

Procedure;

I started with cutting the top of the engine oil container and washed out the oil residue inside the plastic.

After washing, I cleaned both the interior and exterior of the plastic with a dry cloth. I set the plastic aside.

I took a carton big enough to cover the engine oil container twice and removed the first layer of the carton.

After carefully removing the first layer, I measured the plastic on the carton.

I made sure I added a few extra to the length and breath of the plastic on the carton before cutting out the size of the carton I needed to cover the plastic.

I applied Evostick glue to the body of the engine oil container and wrapped the carton; I removed the first layer earlier around it.

I made sure the plastic was properly covered and the ends of the carton properly lay on each other to prevent it from opening later.

I allowed the plastic to dry and applied gum inside the container.

I folded the extra carton at the opening of the plastic inside the plastic to cover the plastic completely.

I didn't like the big opening, so I decided to divide the opening into two.

I measured the length of the opening and cut two small pieces of carton of the exact size.

I joined the small piece of carton with glue and also wrapped it with another carton to make it look neat as well.

I applied gum to the edge of the carton and inserted it into the plastic opening.

I moved on to measuring the base of the engine oil container on a carton and cut it out in an oval shape.

I cut out two extras of the same oval shape and joined them together with evostick glue.

I covered the oval shape with a carton and made sure it looked neat.

At this point, I have the pencil holder and the base already.

I applied glue to the bottom of the container and carefully placed it on the center of the oval shape.

I allow the gum to dry properly before moving to the next part, which is painting.

I painted all the pencil holders with black glossy paint.

After painting, I wanted a girl's touch to the pencil holder, so I drew a butterfly on paper.

I traced it out and cut the butterfly out from a carton.

I repeated the process on the two colors of cardboard I had.

I applied gum to the carton and gently placed one of the butterflies on it.

I reduced the size of the second butterfly and placed it on the carton as well.

I cut some small circles from the cardboard waste and glued them to the butterfly as well.

Finally, I attached the butterfly with glue to the pencil holder, and it looks beautiful.

The joy on the little girl's face when I gave it to her made me happy, and I am glad about being able to build the plastic pencil holder for her.
