ENG/ESP Long earrings with cubes of canutillos. / Aretes largos con cubos de canutillos.

I confess something. I didn't like working with beads. Although other people's work looks beautiful, for me it was not a very friendly material. The holes are too small to use needles and it is more difficult to work with just nylon. The other thing is that they are not even in size and that asymmetry bothered me. But these days, it has changed my perspective. Now I see how versatile this material can be and its valuable contribution to the creation of accessories and crafts.

Les confieso algo. No me gustaba trabajar con canutillos. Aunque los trabajos a otras personas les quedan preciosos, para mí no era un material muy amigable. Los orificios son muy pequeños para usar agujas y es más difícil trabajar con solo nylon. Lo otro es que no son parejos en cuanto al tamaño y esa asimetría me molestaba. Pero en estos días, ha cambiado mi perspectiva. Ahora veo lo versátil que puede ser este material y su valioso aporte en cuanto a la creación de accesorios y artesanías.

Today I come to share with you the process of making these long earrings with canutillos cubes. They look very elegant and although the cubes do not look perfectly symmetrical on all sides, when assembling the whole earring, they look harmonious and very striking. In this sense, I feel completely satisfied with this accomplishment and couldn't wait to leave you the step by step. On the other hand, once we learn how to make the cubes, we can integrate them to other accessories and they will look fantastic.

Hoy les vengo a compartir el proceso de elaboración de estos aretes largos con cubos de canutillos. Se ven muy elegantes y aunque los cubos no se ven perfectamente simétricos en todos sus lados, al ensamblar todo el arete, se ven armónicos y muy llamativos. En este sentido, me siento completamente satisfecha con este logro y no pude esperar para dejarles el paso a paso. Por otro lado, una vez que aprendemos a realizar los cubos, podemos integrarlos a otros accesorios y lucirán fantásticos.

Each cube is composed of 12 beads and 6 beads. The colors are gold and ochre respectively. And we use nylon thread as I mentioned before. Also two rings, two hooks, 6 pearls or crystals preferably 5mm and 6 chain links. As you can see, the amount of material needed is very little and the result is luxurious.

Cada cubo está compuesto de 12 canutillos y 6 mostacillas. Los colores son dorado y ocre respectivamente. Y utilizamos hilo de nylon como ya la había mencionado anteriormente. También dos argollas, dos anzuelos, 6 perlas o cristales de preferencia de 5mm y 6 eslabones de cadena. Como verán es muy poca la cantidad de material que se necesita y el resultado es de lujo.

We start with about 30 ctms of nylon for each cube. We introduce a comb and insert a bead. Then we will give you 4 of each one and through the last bead we introduce the two threads in the opposite direction. We already have one side of the cube.

Empezamos con unos 30 ctms de nylon para cada cubo. Introducimos un canutillo e intercalamos una mostacilla. Entonces te daremos 4 de cada uno y por el último canutillo introducimos los dos hilos en sentido contrario. Ya tenemos un lado del cubo.

In the next step we introduce two beads separated by a bead and in the other nylon a bead and a bead. Through the second bead we pass the other nylon in the opposite direction and we assemble the second side of the cube. We continue with the third face in the same way. For the fourth we use only two beads.

En el siguiente paso introducimos dos canutillos separados por una mostacilla y en el otro nylon un canutillo y una mostacilla. Por el segundo canutillo pasamos el otro nylon en sentido contrario y armamos la segunda cara del cubo. Seguimos con la tercera cara y es de la misma manera. Para la cuarta utilizamos solo dos canutillos.

To assemble the cube we pass one of the strands of nylon through the first canutillo of the first four that forms one of the sides and when we pull it, each side takes its position. We introduce the pearl that we have chosen and repeat, we pass the nylon thread through the comb of the first square, but on the opposite side to the one we used before and the magic is done. The result is a small cube with a pearl inside. We tie the ends of the nylon and pass it through the available holes to hide the excess thread, we cut the excess.

Para armar el cubo pasamos una de las hebras de nylon por el primer canutillo del primer cuatro que forma uno de los lados y al tirar de este cada lado toma su posición. Introducimos la perla que hayamos elegido y repetimos, pasamos la hebra de nylon por el canutillo del primer cuadro, pero del lado opuesto al que ya usamos anteriormente y se hace la magia. Queda un pequeño cubo con un perla en su interior. Amarramos los extremos del nylon y pasamos el por los orificios disponibles para ocultar el exceso de hilo, cortamos el excedente.

We put together another five cubes and to make the earrings we join one cube to another using a chain link. They can also be rings but I didn't have them available so I improvised with them and it looks nice. Finally we place a ring crimped to the link and these to the hooks.

Armamos otros cinco cubos y para hacer los aretes vamos uniendo un cubo con otro utilizando un eslabón de cadena. También pueden ser argollas pero no tenía disponibles así que improvisé con éstas y queda bonito. Por último colocamos unas argolla engarzada al eslabón estos al anzuelos.

We have a very nice pair of earrings. They are really inexpensive but don't look like it. I like them very much and I am going to wear them this Sunday.
