Al estar ansiosos se vienen a la mente una serie de pensamientos que afectan la seguridad y confianza que tiene el atleta e incluso puede perder el control de sus emociones, evidenciándose en resultados que se alejan de lo esperado, al pensar que no pueden hacerlo.
Precisamente en este período precompetencia es cuando todo deportista sea de élite o no, siente la tensión y el estrés propio del desafío que se le presenta.

- Tener Objetivos claros: El deportista desde que toma la practica de un deporte como parte de su estilo de vida, establece una serie de objetivos y metas que espera, bien sea una victoria o medalla, la mejora constante de sus marcas o la superación personal. Para manejar la ansiedad debe enfocarse hacia que pretende lograr en la competencia y concentrarse en el logro de esto.
- Visualización: El uso de la imaginación va a llevar al atleta a repasar cada paso del entrenamiento, así como de la rutina que ha estado preparando, dependiendo de la disciplina.
- Stop a los pensamientos negativos: El atleta debe poner un alto a aquellos pensamientos llenos de negatividad, dejarlos fluir sin enfocarse en ellos.
- Reencuadre de la situación: se refiere a ver desde otra perspectiva la competición que nos genera ansiedad, apoyándose en pensamientos positivos que refuercen su autocontrol y confianza.
- Diversión: Recordar las razones que nos incitan a la práctica de este deporte y tratar de divertirse durante esta experiencia deportiva.
- Enfocarse en el proceso más que en los resultados: No perder de vista que se ha estado preparando para este momento, que se ha llevado a cabo un proceso y que es lo mas valioso independientemente de si el resultado es de victoria o derrota. Igualmente significa un aprendizaje.
There are several strategies considered very useful for the athlete before the competition to manage the anxiety that can produce:
