This is the last installment of my Gabii sa Kabilin Series. Below are quick links you can read through in case you missed any of my blogs about this series that I posted over the last 2-3 weeks:

Gabie sa Kabilin (A Night of Heritage) | Cebu City, Philippines [Part 1]
The Yap-Sandiego Ancestral House | Gabii sa Kabilin, Cebu City [Part 2]
The Kabilin Center | Gabii sa Kabilin, Cebu City [Part 3]
Casa Gorordo Museum | Gabii Sa Kabilin, Cebu City [Part 4]

When we went out of Casa Gorordo Museum there were two things that instantly caught our attention: (1) food stalls selling variety of meals, Filipino snacks and drinks and (2) unique art installments on the street fronting Casa Gorordo Museum. The entire block was closed and car-free; it felt nice to experience this even once in a year.

We spotted five or six boxes erected one after the other. From afar, these white boxes looked boring. But at time, boring can also attract attention. We walked closer to these white rectangular boxes to discover what's inside it; it was only when we were a foot or two away from these boxes that we realized what they were. A huge "View Here" was written below a small rectangular opening in the bigger box. It was big enough for a single person to peek at the whole and discover what's inside. My boyfriend and I took turns in viewing each and every art installment.

I don't know the right terminology for this type of art but I like calling it glow-in-the-dark paintings. I was amazed to see what's inside the boxes. This artform might be something new to me but what each glow-in-the-dark painting portrayed various things and themes I am very familiar with; from religion, revolution, to politics, history, ancient beliefs and traditions of the Filipinos, it was cathartic. I know that art can be powerful but I didn't know it can be this powerful. image.png

There was even a small room you can enter into, see the glow-in-the-dark paintings up close and take photos against the colorful lines and strokes that lit up the darkness. I love it except I got a weird feeling in my stomach the longer I stayed inside. We took photos, admired everything we saw and went out as fast as we could; my already-damaged eye couldn't take the excessive stimuli inside the dark room.

Well, I guess this is where my Gabii sa Kabilin Series ends. I'm truly glad I've done and dusted this series and excited to share the other trips I've been to in the recent months. Where do you want me to take you? Luzon? Visayas? Mindanao? How about overseas? Hmmm! I'll see what I can come up next. See you all and truly grateful for your undying support. :)
