Fueling Young Minds
Yesterday, as suggested by the parents and my students, we prepared the ingredients for our porridge as part of our school feeding program.
I already assigned students to bring a big pot or cauldron, firewood, a spoon, and a bowl. One parent volunteered to cook the porridge because it was a rule that neither a teacher nor students would conduct the cooking. It must be a parent or a member of the PTA.
So before cooking, we prepared the necessary ingredients, utensils, and materials to be used.
Only one parent volunteered to cook, so some of my students assisted her since one of their subject teachers was not around. It seems that they enjoy also what they are doing.
The ingredients of our porridge include egg and chicken meat, and we call it " Sospas" in our language. It also takes time to cook our porridge so they started cooking it at 9:00 am, and they were done cooking at 10:15 am.
Why Porridge?
Maybe someone might ask, why porridge is prepared in a School Feeding Program, and here is the explanation.
Porridge is not only delicious but also a versatile meal that can be customized to suit different tastes and dietary needs. Its nutritional value was taken into account. It is richer with minerals, vitamins, and fiber, making it an excellent source of energy and nourishment. It will enable our students to perform their best inside the classroom. Also, the ingredients were already available in our school canteen. As advised by the Provincial Government, we do the school feeding until the end of the school year.
Eating Time
As the porridge was already cooked, I called on the attention of my students so that they could bring their bowl and spoon, and eat the porridge while Hot.
This porridge also suits the cold weather. Many students from the other section bring their bowls and ask for some porridge. We are happy also share because it is more than enough for my students.
The school feeding program in my section, with the inclusion of nutritious porridge, plays a crucial role in fueling the minds and bodies of our students. By providing a balanced meal, we are setting the foundation for their academic success and overall well-being. My thanks to the support of the Provincial Government especially to the Governor, and also to the stakeholders who never get tired of supporting the education sector.
