Desert rains and bustling cities

in TravelFeed2 months ago (edited)

This is one post I wouldn't expect to be writing with the sound of falling rain in the background, but that's one of the joys of travelling: there's a good possibility that something unexpected will happen. Like raining in the desert, for instance.

First time in continental Africa: check! Morocco was a long due visit, and finally happened. It's always such a joy to be immersed in a whole new different culture, and I'm loving it so far. Such that I wanted to write this post a couple days ago but only now found the time to do it, while waiting for the rain to go.

Marrakesh was the first destiny, and it's truly a bustling city!

As the sun sets, the central square gains even more life.

The Medina (the old part of the city) is a maze of narrow streets with stores and stalls of everything you can remember,  along with some restaurants and Riads, the typical moroccan houses with a central courtyard, that are one of the usual lodging options and feel a lot more familiar than the typical hotel.

My riad, the base for the next days.
My riad, the base for the next days.

It's easy to feel a bit overwhelmed with the incredible activity the city has, even at night: as the sun sets, Jemaa el fnaa, the central square, gets even more lively, with food stalls, singers, performers, and locals playing games!

During the day there's no shortage of things to do either, for sure. As in the whereabouts, if a bustling city isn't for you: visiting Atlas, the highest mountain in northern Africa; seeing stunning waterfalls; or even riding a camel and spending  one night in the desert.

And yes... it DID rain in the desert!

Morocco also has a great coastline, and I'm hoping to visit it in the following days. Time always seem short for all the things we want to do while travelling, right? It's always good to leave some things to be done, it's a great excuse to come back.

I will write in greater detail about all these experiences for sure, but for now this will have to do. It was also a chance to retry the travelfeed frontend again,  which I hadn't done for years! Harder to find my way here, but likely due to lack of habit. For now, time to taste a little more of the fantastic moroccan cuisine...

... and plan the next adventures! 😉

What a amazing travel! Never been in Morocco, but for sure one more in my bucket list!
From the African Continent I only was in South Africa, but besides the different landscape, for sure, the culture is much more close to the "European one"!
I'm pretty sure that we are going to learn more things about other places in Morocco!
Thanks for sharing this great photos with us!

I hope to have some cool photos to share! Morocco definitely deserves a visit, so many gems here!

Can't wait to see them in your future posts! Cheers!

Soon... ;)

Food looks incredible 😋 Love the Riad what a cool place to stay! I would definitely walk the market but I would be heading for the desert for sure.

Food is as awesome as it looks! It was my first time here, but doubt it will be my last. So many things to discover! !BEER

The Medina you mentioned here, is it close to the one in Mecca?

Since they're different countries... no.
