Hi, friends
Jacob and his twin brother, Esau, were born to Isaac and Rebecca after 20 years of marriage, as the Bible recorded. On top of that, when Isaac was 60 years of age, Rebecca the wife was uncomfortable during her pregnancy moment, she went to enquire of God about why she was suffering, she received the prophecy that twins were fighting in her womb and would continue to fight all their lifetime, even after they become two separate nations.
The prophecy also said that "the one people shall be stronger than the other people", and the older shall serve the younger. You'll find out this in Genesis 25:25.
This took me deep into the narrative of Esau selling his birthright to Jacob, and I realized that Esau actually despised his birthright. However, it also alludes to Jacob being deceitful.
In Esau's mother and father's eyes, the deception may have been deserved. Rebecca later abets Jacob in receiving his father's blessing, disguised as Esau.
Nonetheless, Isaac then refuses to retrieve Jacob's blessing even after realizing he was tricked, but then, he does not give this blessing to Esau until Esau persists in begging but still ends up with an inferior blessing, far more from the original.
This whole thing got me thinking deeply, in that I was forced to ask if this could actually be traced back to where we have the wisdom of God, which makes good come out of evil.
Going down into the scripture where we have Genesis 3:22 and Genesis 2:17, respectively, I learned about when God said behold, the man has become like one of us in knowing good and evil. This happened after eating the forbidden fruit. I guess Adam didn't also realize the importance of his birthright, just like Esau.
Adam lost God's righteousness by deciding to eat the tree that would give him the knowledge so that he could be responsible for his own righteousness. If Adam was going to be responsible for his own righteousness, then he would also need to be able to determine what was right (good) or not right (evil).
Righteousness is what Jesus came to give us as a free gift; why righteousness? You may want to ask if it is because everyone will need righteousness to be one with God. Man's own self-righteousness simply falls short and has no eternal guarantee.
Birthright can be linked to self-realization of purpose. To those who understand their true essence of existence, food for the flesh is the last thing on their mind. They can't afford to risk their eternal Glory and values on pleasures of life that will definitely last but for seconds.
Beyond the Story of Esau and Jacob's exchange of birthright for food out here, this is me charging you to look out for things that truly matter in life as the new year is here already.
Don't eat anything, don't eat everything, don't eat anyhow, don't eat anywhere. Irrespective of how thirsty you're going to be, it's still not mandatory that you drink from every cup. Avoid living with eternal regret and don't cause JESUS to wept twice after He had said that it's finished.
Even though you'll have to begin your Walk with Him losing everything instead of gaining more, that is God trying to strip you of everything that has always been making you feel confident in yourself, so you can totally depend on Him as the source of all resources.
Don't feel cheated; there'll be Eternal compensation at the end of this journey after the wish He has said, welcome thou, faithful servant.
