You see, a Christian in particular must always be knowledgeable about the future, remember that the Bible is not only a doctrinal book, but a book of prophecy. What is the intent of prophecy according to the bible?

John 14:29;

I have told you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe.

Yes, there it goes! Prophetic pronouncements are made by the Lord so that we may believe when it is fulfilled. Therefore christians are being told of future happenings or events before it even happens, because it will make us knowledgeable about what is going to happen in the future. We do not just live day by day, expecting anything to happen or anything to come or as the saying goes, 'Que será, será, what will be, will be. It is not like that! We have the power through God's help, to shape our future.

Proverbs 16:9;

A man's heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.

It is the heart of a man that plans his ways but it is the Lord that directs his ways, therefore we have the power to devise, to plan and to think of what we are going to be in the future. And the Lord God will direct our ways.
A Christian is certain of his future, he knows what is going to happen but most of all he knows what will be the end of his life on earth. Firstly we have to know that we will die someday.

Ecclesiastes 9:5;

For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing; they have no further reward, and even their name is forgotten.

The living know that they will die but of course there are people who won't taste death, those who will be lucky to see the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ at rapture. And after death what do we expect?

Hebrews 9:27;

And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment

After death, man would face the judgement, and that is inevitable. So we have to know our future, especially the destined future of a Christian.

Ephesians 2:10;

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

God has ordained the good works we are to do as christians to ensure the future of our eternal destiny. We must be certain we are doing God's Will, we must be certain we are doing God's work while living here on earth.
