Why do people die? (Part 2) | The Old Path | MCGI

Bible texts: Acts 17:31, Acts 17:28, Ecclesiastes 8:8, Proverbs 10:27

Death is an inevitable event that everyone must face, irrespective of gender, nationality, race, or ethnicity. However, there is one important thing that death teaches us. Death makes us know that everyone must face judgment after we die.

Acts 17:31
For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to everyone by raising him from the dead.”

God has set aside a day when He will pass out His judgment on the world through His Son, Jesus Christ. We learn something significant from the death of our Lord Jesus Christ, and we also learn something from His resurrection.

His resurrection makes us know that we are going to eventually die someday, and then on the day of resurrection we would be brought back to life and then face judgement. He showed us what we were expected to face by letting Himself die and resurrect from the grave so that it wouldn't be something strange to us.

Let's glance through another scripture that has something to say about this: Ecclesiastes 8:8.

As no one has power over the wind to contain it, no one has power over the time of their death. As no one is discharged in time of war, so wickedness will not release those who practice it.

This scripture makes us know that no one has power over their lives or can decide the time of their death. Just as a product is limited to the expiry date issued out by it's manufacturer, we are bound to the time appointed by our Creator.

The only man who had power over His life and decided to give it up at His own will is Jesus. Other than Him, no one else possesses such power. Death serves as a lesson for us to know that there is a being in charge of our lives, in charge of our being. We are not living by our own power but by the power of God.

Acts 17:28 says;
For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’

Our existence as humans on this earth is credited to God. Without Him, we would never have existed in the first place. We are given time here on earth for the purpose of redemption and becoming His own so that on the day we die we'll spend eternity with Him.

There are different time frames for each man before he meets his death. Many of us wonder why some people live much longer than other people. Let's look at a scripture in Proverbs 10:27.

The fear of the Lord adds length to life, but the years of the wicked are cut short.

We see here that one of the ways to experience long life is having the fear of God in you. God preserves those who fear and reverence him. Though these people die eventually, they have a longer life span than other people—those who don't fear God.

Through the help of this teaching by our brother Eli, it changes the perspective of some people towards death. Many people see death as an evil thing. But on the contrary, it is nothing of that sort. For those who are in Christ, death is not considered to be evil.
