To the best of our capability, we are to continue to walk in love. We ought to show love even to our enemies. Learning to love our enemies proves that we truly know what it means to love. If we can show love to people who hate us, our much more our family and loved ones? It is possible to love those who are closest to you put not do so to your enemies.
But when you are able to love your enemies, you won't have a problem loving your family and friends. Having love for our enemies does a lot more than we think.
1 Peter 2:12 - Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.
Our actions as Christians does a lot. As Christians, we are not to react in a way that is expected by the people of the world, instead we are to react how Jesus would do if He was in our position. That is the whole point of our Christian race, acting like Christ.
It is the world's standard that when someone offends us we are to retaliate. But that is not the same standard with Christ. Doing so doesn't make us any different from them. In every facet of our lives, we are expected to do good. Our good works should also be extended to all men even if they speak evil of us.
What our good work does is to declare the nature of Christ before them. Our good works can bring about conviction of the reality of Christ.
Matthew 5:16 - Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
Most times our actions are far better than our words. Our good works have a positive impact in the lives of people around us. God is revealed to men through our good works.
