Do men have the power to know the future? | The Old Path

As Christians and people that study the word of God, we are meant to be knowledgeable of the future. According to the teachings of the Bible, we should be able to foresee certain things before they occur. This is because if we go through the Bible, we'll find out that it is also a book of prophecy.

The intention of prophecy is to keep us abreast of the happenings to occur in the future. God provided us with this information so that when those things begin to occur, we won't be surprised because we were already given the information.

As Christians, we are not to live our lives unguided. We should be prepared and conscious of things to come and not live our lives totally clueless of things to happen. God has given us the power to determine how our future should play out. We can see this in the scripture below:

Proverbs 16:9 - A man's heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.

It is the duty of a man to plan his way. It is foolish for a man to expect someone else to plan his way for him. While we were kids, we received directions from our parents on what to do and what not to do. Even where to go and where not to.

But as we advance into men, we are to depend on direction from God. But when it comes to planning our lives, that role is left to us. God has given us that ability to design what our future should look like. There's no doubt that our future is in our hands.

A Christian is certain of his life and future. One common thing we must all know is that we all shall certainly die one day. We see this in Ecclesiastes 9:5.

Ecclesiastes 9.5: For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.

Death is something we should be aware of as living beings. No one can escape it whether we like it or not. Aside from the people that will see the coming of the Lord Jesus, everyone else must surely die. We have doctors and other manner of health partitioners that have come out with many cures for sickness, but none of them can ever come out with the cure or prevention of death.

After the death of man, then comes just then comes judgment. We see this in Hebrews 9:27. But as Christians, we are guaranteed our destination during that day. This is achieved by doing good works (Ephesians 2:10).
