Occasionally, within Society, there are people about whom the community at large prefers to be made aware of. Such people are known and proven pedophiles, murderers, and rapists, etc. It is widely recognized that these people most often re-offend, and Society has methods to identify them publicly with the use of sex offenders registers and the like.
DPoS blockchain communities will occasionally have to recognize who these individuals are and take mitigating actions should they chose to.
In the spirit of decentralisation and minimising gatekeeper control of censorship by individuals or small groups of powerful people (as occurs in legacy web2.0 social media today), it will become increasingly important to empower community-driven methods to identify these types of people. This is because they may be using the technology to their advantage against the interests of the community itself or the wider public.
For example, a pedophile may create seemingly innocent, unrelated content using DPoS backed censorship-resistant tools but use this to attract minors who subsequently may be groomed using social media outside of the ecosystem.
It is therefore foreseeable that the community at large may wish to create a mechanism with which to identify these individuals should they already be known to the authorities or the wider public as "Dangerous Persons."
Once identified, the platforms and communities within the ecosystem may then take their mitigating actions to limit potential damage to their users.
At present, platforms can take it upon themselves to police and blocklist at their own discretion; however, as we move forwards, it will be useful to further decentralise the identification of such accounts by making communities the gatekeepers.
One way to solve this issue could be a community-driven, stake-weighted voting system that allows peers to vote on individual accounts that they deem as dangerous to the community. Once the vote reaches a certain threshold (which is also set by the community), the account is put on a "known Dangerous Person List" or "blocklist." Platforms can then use these community-driven decisions as a factor in their mitigating actions.
3Speak and the SPK Network aims to remove centralised, gatekeeper-controlled censorship by implementing decentralised, community-driven stake weighted vote censorship / dangerous account identification.
With this in mind, 3Speak champions:
- Innocent until proven guilty
- Community driven censorship resistance
- A clean slate once a fellon has done their time
With the way our current system is set up, we can prevent accounts from posting to 3speak.tv should they break our rules. At present, any account identified as dangerous, with evidence backing this up, will be prevented from posting to the site. In addition, we will take steps to notify other communities and platforms in the Hive ecosystem about such "Dangerous Users."
As we move forwards, we would like to propose collaboration with other members of the Hive ecosystem to build a decentralised "Dangerous Accounts Identification System" which uses stake-weighted community voting, similar to the one proposed above.
Ultimately, this is an issue that DPoS will also have to face at some point, and so we would like to ask for your feedback on this issue and propose potential solutions that improve upon what we have proposed.
Learn about the SPK Network:
The SPK Network is a decentralized Web 3.0 protocol that rewards value creators and infrastructure providers appropriately and autonomously by distributing reward tokens in such a way that every user, creator, and platform, will be able to earn rewards on a level playing field.

The subjective way of blacklisting people may not be a good idea, since it can be used for censorship of ideas. Fans of a platform may downvote people who bring up problems concerning the interface, like security issues and such, resulting in broken system.
Or people who bring up issues about certain genetic experiments or social credit systems might be considered dangerous etc. The governments have used pedophilia as a scapegoat for surveillance and censorship for a long time, it might happen in blockchains too.
There is no reason to give up freedoms for the sake of perceived security, especially at these times of dualism and strong narratives by totalitarian medias and governments. First it is the pedos, then it can be anything.
Personal responsibility and understanding freedom is really taken a toll. Tere are already some bots spamming warnings about content a few people are not fond of, which takes away the enjoyment of sharing information.
So now we need to track the criminal records of the users of this platform?
Do you not see how that is a problem?
I see a problem with someone thinking you'd have to search criminal records of all users when this is about KNOWN dangerous persons. The example given of a pedophile that is known, would be based on public info, or perhaps previous flagged posts, etc. I see that problem someone isn't thinking much about the OP and just grasping straws in order to complain while not offering any real substance to the issue/task/question at hand. No go troll elsewhere. Thanks.
Maybe think past your straws and read the OP while paying attention to context. No one said there was a need for background checks on users. Thanks.
Flagging pedos or downvoting objectively dangerous postings isn't the same as social credit systems. First its pedos then it can be anything? Really? So if we stop a pedo from luring and grooming kids or not even that, downvote them, then ANYTHING could be next...no. No, anything could not be next. That is some gross ass rationalizing you tried there. Some bots commenting sure the fuck can be annoying, but people using the community to commit horrific acts is, whats the words...way worse. Those bots I assume you mentioned are the bots flagging plagerized material. Or the one's like gangstalker who keep buggin everyone about some stupid conspiracy theory.
Nah... nah... you see.... censorship is only a problem when government does it.
We are the Good Guy Squad, we can't do anything wrong. Unlike the government...
Cos not giving a pedophile or violent extremist a platform is censorship? LOL. The Hive communtiy owes no one a soap box. Flagging a known and confirmed pedophile is not censorship, downvoting is not censorship. Pedophilia and pushing for violence are not covered by freedom of speech, legally and ethically. If that's your bag, you need to go some place else.
Applauding the initiative.
One aspect of this seems to be that people can easily create new accounts to start over if/when their behavior is identified as problematic. The blockchain allows anonymity and easy creation of new accounts. So how can a reputation system work for identifying a problematic source of content? I am not sure. Right now it seems to be that we are identifying problematic content itself and we can downvote it which alerts others and hides it by default, and it reflects on the author's reputation, but of course the author can always choose to start fresh. It's not a great choice, though, since starting fresh means a new (not trusted) account, so people are probably more likely to take anything coming from such an account with a grain of salt. Not having good reputation is the cost to starting fresh. But how can this serve in identifying problematic content? It seems like a cost that someone with nefarious purposes will likely be willing to pay.
There is also the case where accounts with established reputation can be hacked (and can be a desirable hacking target even if there's no (liquid) funds in them) so as to be used for the hacker's purpose, even if temporarily. Because this thing (identify theft) exists far more in the digital world than in the physical, creating a reputation system to prevent problematic content seems even more difficult. Unless, of course, we can make it far more difficult for hacking into people's accounts and maintaining such control for any length of time, perhaps through better account recovery systems and similar.
I guess there is not an easy solution for this. It would have to be done every time again
We are the Good Guys Gang. Nothing can wrong giving us the power to censor individuals. Because unlike the government, we can be trusted with that power.
I actually think this is really important. A decentralized world MUST have tools for us to collectively agree - and act - if someone is a threat.
Before this begins it might really help to pro-actively encourage the community to understand the whole downvote mechanism more. Since I think a lot of "slightly-off" behaviour is arguably best nipped in the bud and deterred that way.
The DAIS will be a great idea. That's the decentralized identification system, I believe that if the mainstream media wouldn't offer these people opportunities to start all over, them we would and should, since we're hoping to build something different, decentralized and totally powerful. The DAIS will be community voted and based and it will actually decided should a defaulter be found guilty. People shouldn't hid under the guise of their account to do terrible things and having a decentralized way of tackling this will go a long way, apart from just muting them, they could be identified, investiged and the voted actions taken against them.
I agree. This site should track the criminal records of it's users. That way as soon as somebody is charged with a felony, we can remove their ability to post/comment/earn.
And once they've done their time, us, the Good Guys Gang, can give them back their privilege's. Because that's what freedom of speech is, a privilege.
Yeah, we can give them back that privilege because actually that is what true freedom is actually about, I believe SPK network can be onto something really big if you ask me.
cali is trying to conflat any felony to that of a dangerous crime such as pedophilia, which was the main example used in the OP. That troll is trolling you.
You sure are grasping straws. Dangerous people, such as the pedophiles that were used as an example my be felonies, but being a felon does not make one a dangerous person. You are using faulty logic to try and spin your sarcastic trolling. But you keep supporting dangerous people, like pedos, to have the right to post here, or worse, as the OP used as an example, try to lure and groom people here. The people who defend are more than welcome to use the platform, we are welcome to flag them for things such as pedophilia or other action that is that fucking horrible that you have to watch a person. Making a person who tries to sexually molest children let other people in their neighborhood is not censorship.
Hard topic indeed, every case is going to be probably unique and also the actions to take.
As i see the censorship runing today on Hive (wich is minimal, but still exists) in order to protect real freedom first we need to recognize what harms the values that 3speak represents. Missinformation? Hate speech? Or only pervertions known as crimes (as pedophile, rapes, etc) Because some are "easy" to judge, but what about hate speech, anti science, fake news, racism, clasism, homophobia etc? I didnt see any sexual behaviour on the platform, but being honest I didnt look for it neither.
He is speaking of dangerous activity for flagging, in general we can downvote all that other stuff normally or you can join a downvote train to downvote it as a group. Usually if its not pushing violence or something that wouldn't be covered under freedom of speech anyways, no one seems to want to stop it, we just downvote it. The more mainstream the platform gets the less batshit fake news I have been seeing, same with anti science, but itll be like any other social platform. Most of the people crying about "censorship" on other platforms are still posting the same shit on said platforms / their views they are pushing are often not covered by freedom of speech / they don't understand that a private organization doesn't owe them a plaform / etc. As you said, hard topic. I think focusing on pedophiles or extremists using the platform to push their not just illegal activities, but also unethical by most standards, or as the OP said, dangerous to the community. We don't need, nor should we be, vigelantes about this, but we can take some basic steps to try and secure ourselves, and the many children on the platform, against such users. First step is discussing it.
Well we are the Good Guys Gang, so any type of censorship that we do is righteous, unlike the government, who can't be trusted to censor individuals.
I totally support the idea of collective decision on this issue. It's unfortunate that past offenders who've done their time hardly get another opportunity to start on a clean slate. This is where platforms such as ours come in. However, care must be taken.
Why would care need to be taken? We are the Good Guys Gang...
Giving us the ability to censor members on decentralized platform can only lead to good things, I mean, we are the Good Guys Gang after all, not the government, and our intentions are pure.
Nah, calimeatwagon is the faulty ass logic troll gang, and the rest of us are the "we hate pedophiles and extremist pushing violence or worse" gang. No one is going to tap your phone or track you data, but you stay paranoid. Community security is not censorship. Flagging pedos and not wanting them to lure and groom children is not censorship and it sure the fuck isn't covered under freedom of speech. Now go melt somewhere else snowflake while the adults try to talk about actual issues, such as pedos, scammers, violent extremists, etc. We get it, you are ok with them, 99% of the rest of the world is not. No one is trying to stop them from speaking but we sure the fuck dont owe them soapboxes.
A decentralised, community-driven censorship would probably work well...for Hive, because we got enough good people on Hive.
Right! We are part of the Good Guy Gang... we can be trusted with censorship tools... unlike the government...
Word!😉
This sounds like a good idea to me. The biggest issue I've long thought to mass adoption of the chain is, people who are afraid because they have an abuser who stalks them or something, and there is no mechanism to "block," only "mute," which isn't safe if you have a stalker who can still see your posts. This isn't quite fixing that, but it's a very important step to online safety. POS gives us a great opportunity to experiment with community-based safety and consequences type issues; people often ask, "well if we defund the police/have an anarchist society, what do you do with really dangerous people," and this is a good thing to work on now, I think.
Right! I would much rather have the Good Guy Gang go around and censor individuals they deem harmful to society instead of having the government do it.
nah..just can't read an OP apparently.

We have downvote trains you can join on Hive Vote. I am not sure how active users are at hunting down dangerous people but if they see such posts they get downvoted.
The greatest danger is group stupidity...
1984 on Hive...
Bllllshit doesnt get much more fucked up than this
I don't remember Orwell supporting pedos...
This is not about pedos...it's about content control same as it always is...
Maybe you should read the OP.
A strange world I accidentally stumbled across... are you a pedo love group? I'll bugger off now and leave you to censor each other, try not to bore anyone's pants off...
This is not about your paranoid imaginary enemies, this is not about you at all, this is about what the OP mentions not what you wanna spin it into. Funny how people wanna secure themselves against pedos and other cleary objective actions, and you melt. Hmm...
The only content control being spoken about is shit like pedohiles luring children using the platform or horrible shit like that, no one cares about your bullshit political thoughts or whatever you think big brother or big tech is gonna come after you for.
As it always is...so no one is ever trying to defend themselves or protect others, its all some tin hat agenda....got it. Shit, I wonder if Threespeak is ran by Bill Gates too...
Maybe it is run by the same people who own bill gates 2.0.
No. Its not some tin hat Qcult fantasy. Sorry.
If you are not ready, don't go there...yeah they did that q shit too
This is great!
It's much better when small groups of influential people are able to censor and silence individuals that they choose, in the name of public safety, instead of letting the government do it.
Because here on Hive, we are all part of the Good Guys Gang. So there is no way us having the tools to silence individuals can go wrong. Unlike the government. That small group of individuals can't be trusted, unlike us, the Good Guys Gang.
You should learn to read, then read the OP.
