Values in Time

Today I went with my husband to the post office to pick up something he had ordered online and there, in the waiting room, I saw this corner. Collector's Corner. (Rincón del coleccionista). As there were way too many people and we had to wait quite a lot, I was entertaining myself by reading a bit about the history of the postage in Spain.

The board informs us about some important dates for the post service in this country. In 1716 it began to take its first steps but just many years later Spain had its first mailbox. It was installed in one house in Valladolid in 1793. That very first mailbox in the stone wall can be seen in the photo, under the info and the date.

1850 was an important year, especially for this post and collectors, as that was the year when the first stamp for the postal service was manufactured in Spain. That is a year that I guess all the Spanish philatelist know.

I don't have a very wide collection of postage stamps but I do have some so one day maybe they also come to this community. However, today I will highlight just one collection that can be seen in one of the books I picked from the shelves in the post office. It is a collection of stamps issued in 2020 in Spain and Andorra.

It was not the only book there, but I had to choose just one as I would get lost among so many years and collections. These books are titled Valores en el Tiempo, which would be Values in Time, and each has a different year of publication. Each year new collection of stamps and the explanation about them.

It was quite interesting as I had no idea that they are issued every year and that they cover so many different subjects. Of course, it is a delight for the collectors as many artworks and famous people can be represented on the stamps, as well as important dates, happenings, discoveries, buildings and events.

For example, just look at these awesome ones that represent one of the most important types of architecture, the Mudejar architecture of Aragon. When I visited Teruel and Zaragoza I was able to see in person how peculiar these buildings are. Recognizing this tower from Teruel in a stamp, which I had seen in person, was a good feeling.

On these pages, you can read about the history of the place but also important information about the design of the stamp, size, how many of them were issued, and their value. An example:

Another world heritage site, Madinat al-Zahra is presented in this postage stamp. I put this site on my bucket list to visit one day, just because I saw it now in this stamp.

Football fans can also enjoy some stamp designs.

The provinces of Spain had their moment too. Each month there was one city from a different province that was represented in an issued stamp. I also loved the design of the book and how these collections were described.

Browsing through this magnificent book, I came to the part where a summary of all the stamps was presented, in sections by month. First from Spain, and then from Andorra.

January, February and March:

I guess I would like to go back one day to the post office again and check out the other years too. But until then... do you have your postage stamp collection? Or maybe you have a book that features some stamp collections? In any case, feel free to share it with us if you like. 😉

The September ones are very nice, especially because some of them are about soccer 😅. It's great that the Rincón del coleccionista is so organized, that kind of historical information is little valued in other places.

I guess a sport you like 😉

That's at least organized, as the service is a bit slow 🤐 hahaha

I loved this!!! Didn’t know that Mudejar art had a dedicated stamp! I shared a little bit of my stamps collection here time ago but I have more to show. I have an old catalogue too. 😊

I didn't know it either, but you see - surprise ;D

Yes, I remember your collection and there were a few other users who already brought their ones. My ones are not so organized, they are just stored in one envelope, so I would need time to organize them and present them. I am looking forward to seeing the rest of your collection from that old catalogue you mentioned ;)

Do I sense next month's theme coming up...

Definitely, one of the next months will be stamps... but for January I already havr a different thing in my mind 😅

This is just amazing! I think over here we don't have a specifical place to show this kind of historical moments, so I really enjoyed your post :).

I am glad you enjoyed it ☺️

I didn’t know stamps could tell such fascinating stories about history, art, and culture. I don’t have a collection yet, but this makes me want to start one.

Start with cutting out the stamps from the received letters and packages ;)
That's how it starts

I met a stamp collector and I was impressed by the affection with which he spoke of them, he said that through them he traveled the world. He knew important people and other collectors with whom he exchanged them. Each stamp is a story. Here I have seen on TV the act of canceling a stamp and it is very solemn. Nowadays it is used less and less to send letters, so I am thinking if this will also have an impact on stamp issuance.
You always bring us very interesting stuff like this. Best regards, and happy weekend. 🥰❤️

I know, that's how it is, nowadays less people send letters in the conventional way, though I send a few Christmas cards, to preserve the tradition;)

Thank you, the same to you 😇👋

I don't have that kind of collection but I'm sure stamp lovers would love to have something like that, even those books!

I've only started to have a lesson in Christmas cards... like postcards, but I have very few.

Those books... what a beauty!

Lessons in Christmas cards? Like how to make them?

The book was informative and very nicely done, you feel the quality. Next time I will ho through another year 😆

The translator has tricked me... Christmas cards to write messages...and send them to people we love.😍

Ah, ok, now I understand, I think hahaha. Es como tener una colección de cartas navideñas?

Something like this...

I learned more reading your post than going to school and university for more than 20 years hahaha 😂

Answering your question, no, I don't even have a shadow of a stamp, but they are cute, I'm going to stamp Buhito 🦉

Oh, that's because Hive is a good teaching/learning place 😁

Shame on me - I should have searched for some stamps featuring owls. But if you stamp Buhito 😂 it means that a unique collection of Buhostamps will be issued by the post office of Buholandia!

Soon the first Buhostamps will be released, the Buholandia post office is working on it! Atenti 🦉 hahahaha

I used to have a stamp collection when I was a boy , that I got from one of my brothers and I keeping growing for a while , I never knew what happened with it , I suppose I lost the interesting after finishing the secondary and start in the school of art , but these post bring me that time to me, when we share the stamps and try to get the most weird and interesting stamps, so thanks señorita mi piano de los correos y las colecciones 😁

That's normal, we change our hobbies, or simply don't have time anymore for stamp collection when an important thing comes in, like studies ;)
You can always paint you own stamps 😁

Yeaa! YEAA! actually when I had that collection I remember that I paint some of then in big sizes , like I had a lot birds and animals that I used as reference, in that time we haven't internet or cell phones 😅😅

Muy variable las colecciones
