Young papaya is often a popular dish in my area, usually young papaya is processed into soup or processed into crunchy snacks like in my previous post. Well this time is different, I want to cook young papaya into a side dish menu for lunch at home.

Red Cooked Young Papaya

Red cooked young papaya is one of the preparations of young papaya with red sauce. It certainly looks like curry at first glance, with a mixture of spices that are commonly used in curry. However, this dish adds chili paste for a blushing red result. I made this dish to be enjoyed during the day with warm white rice. Very suitable as a family mainstay menu.

Here's the step by step preparation to make this dish.

Ingredients Needed

Main Ingredients

300 gram young papaya
300 ml coconut milk
1 tablespoon chili paste
1 pandan leaf
2 bay leaves

Ground spices

1 dried chili
3 cloves shallots
2 cloves garlic
5 red chili
5 cayenne
1 hazelnut

Cooking Preparation

Grate a small piece of young papaya with the seeds, be careful when grating because papaya is slippery and hard.

All spices are blended with a little water until perfectly smooth. Ground spices after being blended in a stir-fry with a little oil, don't forget to add bay leaves and pandanus leaves.

Add thick coconut milk that I store in the frezer stirring until evenly cooked until boiling.

Then finally add the young papaya then season with salt, if you want more savory add a little mushroom broth.

Results and Serving Suggestions

Look at the result, the young red papaya is indeed so bright in color. The added touch of finely chopped young coconut with a grater makes it very easy to tenderize. Eaten it will be very delicious, the sensati of the sauce is indeed spicy savory, this is not sweet at all. The general sweetness is directly from the young papaya itself.

I highly recommend that you enjoy it with warm white rice, or you can prepare it with whatever bread you prefer. I think the spiciness is just right, because I didn't use curly chili peppers that are too spicy, so even though the color is red, the taste is still right on the tongue.

I love papaya but here in Italy unfortunately it's not easy to find it sometimes I find papaya juice easily than papaya by the way your dish looks delicious 😋

Papaya is very abundant in Asian countries. Hopefully one day you can find young papayas there and try this recipe.

So I can prepare food with papaya? Wow, I will try it out. I just re logged your post for future purposes. Thanks.

Thanks for sharing this recipe. We only eat papaya as a fruit here, little did I know that I can actually prepare something nice with it. Your dish looks great, and I love the red color from the paste.
