From Concept To Delivery

This is my first post here in this community. Thank you so much to @storiesoferne for suggesting I join here. I had a look through many of the posts here and am excited to join and post some of my projects here. I am an interior designer and architect based in Phuket Thailand.

We are a family business and also have our own construction company and furniture factory that my brother and business partner run. This means that when a client approaches us we can offer everything under one umbrella. We design the project from hand-sketch to material finishes including custom furniture. My team then produces detailed renders and construction drawings. We then do all the construction right from the footings to the final interiors including joinery, built-ins and custom furniture.

Here is some examples of the process. First step is the conceptual sketches for the client presentation. This maybe my favourite part because before anything I'm an artist. Just relaxing in the quiet of my studio and making a sketch of how I imagine a person's home will look like after completion.....

Once the preliminary sketches are approved my team move on to the floor plans. Here we can plan all the spaces and agree on the layout before starting the 3D renders.

Next my team get started on the 3D renders. Here we can really get the project to come to life and start deciding on material finishes and furnishings. The guys on my team are expert with this kind of software and clients are always stunned by how photo realistic these renders are when finished.

After the designs and architectural drawings are signed off by the client and drawings submitted to local authorities and approved for construction we can begin. This is where my brother takes over, but I still visit the site regularly to make sure the designs are being interpreted correctly by the construction teams.

After the structural construction is finished we move on to the finishings. We also design and build many aspects of the interior including bay windows, feature walls, walk-in wardrobes and different features requiring timber finishes. I choose wood from suppliers in the north of Thailand, the only way to get the best product is to go there and choose it myself, otherwise they will cheat and send low grade timber. I learned this the hard way.

I'm lucky to have some very good carpenters in my team. I work closely with them to make sure my designs are built correctly in the finished home.

As the carpenters are building the wardrobes, shelving and timber finishes on site, we have our teams in our furniture factory building custom furniture. Im blessed to have a business partner from Denmark. He is able to take my designs and make them a reality. As they come together I visit to make sure they are correct and discuss any challenges that were not foreseen.

Then all the furniture is moved in, the final details are done and the artwork is installed ( I also create artwork for the projects).

Thats a snapshot of how all my projects go. I love what I do and am so happy that I'm directly involved in every detail from start to finish. I will share more of my work here and look forward to connecting with others in this industry. Thanks for reading...:)

Looks like you have quite a large operation there. There must be so much involved in the process of creating something like this from scratch. It looks like you only work on really high-end projects and not crappy little bungalows like the one I live in :)

Hahaha - maybe u need me to transform your bungalow into something nicer? Yes it's true that nowadays most of my projects are high-end but that was not always the case. When I started out in my career I took every job that came along no matter how small or how low budget....😄 I'm lucky now that I'm in a good position and business is doing OK.

I love this sketches, It feels like a concept art for game. By the way is the last picture a rendered 3D photo too?

Thank you so much. That sketch was for two villas on a large plot of land in Kamala, Phuket, Thailand. They have not continued to phase 2 yet but hopefully soon. The last image is a photograph. It's the guest bedroom of a villa. I used that image as it shows the wall art from the picture before in place.

Hello @seancallow, it's an immense pleasure to have you in our beloved community. Looking forward to more fabulous content about architecture and design from you soon. Cheers! 😀

Very impressing how you actually handle so many different steps of this whole process up to the final touches and adding of details!! And I have to say I love those sketches, maybe because of all the details, or because of the effect the colours have, or maybe both..:)

Thanks so much for your kind words. I chose those sketches for the post because I had put quite a bit more effort into them as the client was a personal friend. Often I only do a rough conceptual sketch without colours and too much detail...:) All depends on how much time I can set aside and my mood on the day.

You are very welcome, yes I imagine that it still takes its while even though it is "just" a sketch.. and I guess sometimes it almost feels unnecessary to get super detailed in a sketch cause you have the idea already in your head (or at least thats how I feel sometimes)

Looked through your recent posts - you are a fashion designer! Very great. I love that and hope to see more of your work!

Thanks:) you are very welcome!! And for sure I will post more about my work:)

This is really beautiful @seancallow when I am ready to build a house in Thailand I will know who to contact 😊

Very welcome kah! Always happy to meet new clients and make new friends!

Thank you @seancallow will keep your work of art in mind 😊

Hello Architect! I love how hands-on you are with your designs and business. It's great that you've got an umbrella service, especially having to work with family. Looking forward to seeing some of your design processes. I'm a landscape architect graduate but haven't gotten my license. Your country also has one of the best designers when it comes to master planning and design. Good luck and take care! 💪🏼

Thank you and nice to meet u here. I will try to post at least one time per week and keep the community updated with my newest projects. Landscape architecture is fantastic, congratulations on graduating - will you get your license soon?

Nice to meet you too! Will be cheering for you. I believe not this year soon. I'm focusing on other businesses but once I can get back on it, I'd like to join internship programs and/or review for the licensure exam.
