The COVID outbreak has caused everything to slow down and even impacted construction sites with only a 25% workforce only allowed on sites. This means more work for less people and lengthy delays. Childcare, schools, kinders and play equipment are all closed to. So for little miss she has been stuck at home for the past month board.
Our builder provided us with an update of the second story being completed and as part of an essential service relating to construction I headed out to inspect the build and I took little miss with me too. She hasn't seen the build yet and I knew it would bring her much joy.
This is the window of our front study where no doubt myself and my partner will be working from home alot. I love the large window with the view out onto the wet lands. I informed little miss that it will soon fill with water and a Forrest will be planted. Ducks will move in and so will her favourite pelicans, she fondly remembers our old home where we would ride to the pelicans and feed them fish.
This is the formal lounge with windows either side, in the centre I eventually want to put in a fireplace, unfortunately I didn't have the funds to do one during the build but hopefully in the future I will. Lil Miss concurs that a fire place is needed for this room.
We make our way into the large open place kitchen as little miss begins to plot where the kitchen table will go, where she will eat her meals but the tune doesn't lost long as she notices the back yard.
At our first unit, we had a small back yard with not much room, our current rental has a 4 meter back yard which is still quite decent but this bad boy has just over 10 meters. 14 meters if you include the alfresco area.
It doesn't look like much, but it will have a nice garden, plenty of room for the kids to run about and play, can even play kick to kick as well as have some play equipment. Little miss is already beginning to design our back yard with the back left corner being dedicated to her play ground.
This is the main reason we spent abit more and went double story as you will notice the neighbours blocks come right up to their boundary. Only a few meters off the fence. I personally can't live like that for the rest of my life and needed some space, I would have enjoyed more but unfortunately land is expensive in Melbourne and the 500+ square meter lots were way out of our price range.
Looking back towards the house from the back yard and her backside is looking quite sexy. Nice large open windows, the whole house will be fully secured and monitored with CCTV as well as the latest alarm systems and the most secure alarm system yet, dogs.
I can not wait for it to be completed, unfortunately this is the fastest part of building, from here on in things will take a lot longer to complete but we are one step closer.
Unfortunately the stairs aren't completed yet and access is only via a ladder but once they are put in we will head up for a look.
But most importantly Lil Miss approves!

Great to see the new home coming together 👍
Thank you, I'm pretty excited about it. Can not wait for the completion. Things are getting a lil rough atm with finances.
Wow! Your beautiful residence is rapidly taking shape. It's certainly a huge privilege for our Architecture+Design community to witness the birth, development, and progress of your dream home. And documenting the various processes of construction (of course with the approval of your adorable little architect) through your publications is an ideal way for our tribe to learn more. Were there any major issues so far?
Yes, it will be great to look back on the blog in years to come and see it. So far so good fingers crossed, outside of all the early issues we experienced. I asked not to be informed though just fix shit lol.
Haha. 😁 I agree. It's much better for the builders to simply continue their job and keep quiet rather than to trouble you with unnecessary details. All the best as you move forward with the project. We're excited to see how it looks. Cheers!
Thank you, I was hoping the stairs would be completed so I could go uptop and show lil miss but they aren't built yet. I have hardwood. I can't remember if I got oak or red gum but I guess that's why they aren't there yet. Quite expensive and they will get taken lol
