I can't help but think that this "evolution" is a bait-and-switch. We should evolve our thinking and leave our DNA alone.

I don't recall when Bill left us, but CRISPR that enables simple genetic editing at home without any expensive tools only became available ~2012, and suspect he was not aware of it and didn't know how right he was! As more and more people learn how to genetically engineer organisms at home for fun and profit (the-Odin.com sells a kit for ~$200 that teaches you how to create GMO organisms by doing it on your kitchen table in a couple weeks), folks that take the initiative to edit their own germ cells and use them for DIY in vitro fertilization and embryo implantation will become more common. The big hurdle is knowledge, and understanding the human genome. However, the basic structure of the human genome has been published, and PCR machines that enable people to map their personal genome are inexpensive and easily made at home by simple handymen if they are unavailable on the open market for some reason (I've seen them for as little as ~$200 on government surplus auction websites). All the actual tools and supplies to modify our personal germ cell DNA is inexpensive and widely and commonly available on the open market today. Everyone that spends the time and has the intellectual capacity to understand the literature can today genetically engineer their children with any of the characteristics that are mapped to known genes today (eliminating many heritable diseases, reducing susceptibility to many more, specifying eye, skin, and hair color, height, various traits enabling physical performance, IQ, vision, hearing, and many, many more), and new genes are mapped daily, increasing the potential specificity of directed eugenic evolution within the reach of ordinary people that take the time to learn and implement that knowledge.

It is certain that genetically modifying human embryos has already occurred, although IIRC the Korean doctor that claimed to have modified a couple children born to be immune to HIV has been disappeared, some claim by the Chinese, others that they disappeared in order to prevent being disappeared against their will. However, folks that do it themselves at home using their own DNA and implanting the embryos themselves have almost no potential to be detected at all, and I am unaware of any claim of authority over anyone's ability to do so for their own children. Further I would utterly oppose anyone's claim of such authority, as a ludicrous imposition of audacious tyranny beyond anything any other meddling despot has ever dreamed of attempting.

Whether most people realize they have this potential today or not, there certainly are people that are aware, and more and more people will be making their own children superhuman going forward.

Thanks!

I did not know this, amazing. I prefer to remain Non-GMO.

Freedom is awesome. I also prefer to be 100% organic and wild, but if I knew back when I was spawning what I now know I might have done things differently. It's an amazing transcendence of the human condition, that completely changes everything and opens an entirely new future we could have never imagined, but all the sudden is here and now.

If you search for more information, you can find it at the-odin.com.

Only change itself never changes 😉
