Today, I'm sharing a drawing I recently worked on. I’ll start by showing the initial sketch, which was in my sketchbook that I carry with me all the time for whenever I feel like drawing something.
The drawing is of this cat, entirely inspired by my own cat, Tofu Augusto. This sketch had been in my notebook since January 2023, as you can see.
This time, during a trip, I felt inspired to continue the painting. I chose to work with watercolor, but first, I transferred the drawing onto the painting paper, almost like a stencil to guide me.
After doing that, I started painting the cat, but I was mostly excited to paint the flowers. That’s because since I first sketched these roses in 2023, I think I’ve gotten a little better at painting them. And they are, without a doubt, my favorite part of the drawing.
As for everything else, I still feel like I have a lot to improve on haha.
I think it's worth mentioning that I've never taken any drawing or painting classes in my life, so my learning process is completely self-taught and at a somewhat slow pace. But as someone who has always wanted to learn how to draw and never really had the chance, I feel a certain pride in doing this as an adult, even if my progress is quite slow. Still, I really enjoy documenting it.
Something I’ve also noticed over the past few years since I started drawing is that out of all the materials I’ve tested, I think watercolor is my favorite so far. I love how the colors blend and behave, and especially how I don’t have complete control over the final result. I feel like the paint is alive, leaving its own unique mark on each piece. In fact, my favorite part of painting with watercolor is the ability to layer colors and the incredible effect that creates in the artwork.
I left a few final details of the drawing to fix at home and had a very peculiar assistant, Pino. If you manage to find him in the image, you’ll see for yourself.
And it's done, this is the final result, and now I just need to find a way to frame this cat.
Hope you like it.
See you soon.
So sweet kitty, well done! ❤️
Thank you so much Silvia!
This is really something I wanted to learn soon ❤️
I'm so glad to hear that! Hope it helps when you try it out.
Nice
Thanks!!!
