A Birthday Surprise from My Family

I have not written a post in a long time because I have been really busy with my life. Even now, it's hard to find time, but today I finally had a moment and saw the Neoxian City prompt topic. This topic was about something I wanted to write about for a while, but due to my busy schedule, I couldn’t write it on time. The topic is "Write a story about the most memorable gift you have received and why it had an impact on you."

Last month was my birthday, and I shared a post about it with you all, but there was a story I didn’t completely share.

This story begins about two weeks before my birthday when my Mother told me she needed a mobile phone for my older brother. She said it should have good online gaming features and a good camera for his work. When I asked for the budget, she said it should be between 20,000 and 25,000 rupees. I’m not very interested in mobile phones and don’t know much about them, what’s trending or their prices, but the good thing is that nowadays everything is available online, and you can find out about phones through reviews.

I told my Mother that I didn’t know much about phones and suggested my brother should buy one himself. My Mother was a little upset, so I agreed to find one. I’m quite lazy, and 10 days passed with me delaying the task. Then I finally started looking online at different brands. After 2-3 days, I got a good idea of what was available, and I told my Mother that if she increased the budget to 30,000, we could get a better phone. She agreed and asked me to buy it soon.

I brought up the topic at my office since my colleagues are always talking about mobile phones, and I asked them to suggest a good phone under 30,000. Everyone started giving their opinions, and in the end, I found a phone I liked. I told one of my colleagues to take the money and get that phone.

During this search, I learned that many phone configurations can be misleading. For example, if it says 50 MP camera, it doesn’t always mean it’s a good camera, especially if it’s from a Chinese brand. The same goes for RAM. Based on the specifications, I thought the Itel S23 was a good option within the budget at 23,000 rupees. But everyone said Itel wasn’t a reliable brand, that it’s local, and its phones aren’t durable. I had used Itel before and found it fine, but since this phone was for my brother, I decided to go for a better brand. Finally, Infinix seemed like the right choice since my brother already used that brand. Their latest model, the Hot 40i, had a good camera and 8+8/128 GB configuration. It also fit the budget at 29,000 rupees, so I decided on that.

Then another issue came up. The colleague I gave the money to took two days off, and when I called him, he said he couldn’t get the phone because of the rain. He suggested we go together to buy it. I gave him the money because he had someone in the market who could help, but now it seemed like I could’ve asked anyone else. So, I asked another colleague to go with him, buy the phone, and deliver it to my house, as I was busy at work.

Finally, on August 2nd, the phone arrived at home. I felt relieved that I had completed the task I was asked to do, and everyone liked the phone. But then something unexpected happened. The phone was gifted to me on my birthday. My Mother had cleverly asked for a phone of my choice, only to gift it to me later. It was a big surprise and a very special gift for me. I really liked it, but then my usual habit of speaking out kicked in, and I started saying things like, “I didn’t need such an expensive phone,” or “Why did you buy me such an expensive phone when my Oppo A7 was working just fine?” I got a lot of scolding for that. If I had known the phone was for me, I would’ve probably bought the Itel S23 for 15,000 rupees instead! Haha! But now, nothing could be done.

I’ve received many wonderful gifts on my birthdays, but this one came with a unique story that I will always remember. I’m really thankful to my family for caring so much about me and loving me so deeply. Sharing this story with all of you also has its own joy. I hope you enjoyed it!
