Respect, they say is reciprocal, meaning, you give me my respect and i give you your own respect and everybody becomes happpy and live in harmony.

As important as it sounds, respect is the major attributes needed to tame friendships to the highest peak there is. Even in courtships and marriages at large, respect can ensure a healthy and long lasting marriage between the couples.

Almost everybody know the important of respect, but a hand full of people go out of their way to show respect.

In a relationship, courtship or in marriage, respect and loyalty as well as gratitude, can make a man pull down the entire world for his woman if need be. It brings about peace and calm.

We all have our diverse perspective on different subject matter. Just as we all have different faces and different qualities, that is how we have different perspectives and diffinition of respect.

Respect, being a norm, is actually important to me. Growing up in an African home, i learnt the hard way, the consequences of being stubborn. Always fighting with my elder brother and get beat up.

My elder brother was my biggest rival, thats how i saw it. I get furious when he sends me to do anything for him. When i was younger, i was really stubborn. I will stand firm with a folded fist, telling my elder brother; he can not do anything. Welp, after the fight, i will always end up with some injury, but still, i will not take no corrections.

We were like cat and mice, tom and jerry to be exact. I always disrespected him, and talk to him like i was talking to my junior brother. Back then, after my elder brother finish beating me, my mom will take over. I was like a soccer ball, my brother will kick me to my mom, who will continue from where he stopped, give me purnishments while lecturing me of the need to respect my elder brother. Even after all these, i still refused to show respect to him, welp, not until i grew older, got exposed to life and got a change in perspective.

Whats funny? If my junior brother dare disrespect me in the slightest, either he talks to me in a disrespectful tone, or he forgets to give me water while he serves my meal, i will want to eat him raw. lol.

Growing up, i have learnt quite a lot. Now, i regret my actions, and no doubt, i really miss my elder brother and i wish i can give him the respect i failed to give him when we were kids. Anytime i go back home, i will want to do everything for him; wash his clothes, sweep his room, cook his meal and make him feel like a king.

One lesson i have learnt over the years is; most of the times, the little things we do, greeting the elderly, carrying out tasks for them, running errands for them and other things we see as minor, actually have a way of opening many good doors for us in life.

Interesting. You sound like you were really stubborn. It’s great to know that you’ve learned a lot and aspire to be better.

yeah it is.

Gracias

It's indeed earned and never imposed.
Respect is a lovely thing when everyone gets to show respect to another and like you said, everyone will leave in harmony.
I also behaved like you growing up, since it's what we younger brothers owe our elder brothers growing up, lol

since it's what we younger brothers owe our elder brothers growing up, lol

Lol. we actually owe that to our elder brothers. They deserve it. But then, at some point, we begin to regret our actions.

I guess it's when they begin to say we're growing
