Graham's crayfish snake

This is a Graham's crayfish snake. I found this name by searching on Google. It is a snake. It is a very common snake in our region. Especially these snakes are seen in the water or stay in the water throughout the year. Yesterday when we were doing some work, there was this snake inside some rice seedlings which suddenly came out when my father was lifting those rice seedlings. I was suddenly a bit scared. However it is called by different names in our region. Commonly known as Mighty Padda snake in our region. But we have a common language here that such snakes do not bite easily and these snakes are not poisonous. But honestly I don't know the exact information whether it is poisonous or not!

But it is a fact that when we hear the name of the word snake, we feel a sense of fear and panic. To be honest, I am very afraid of snakes. Although there are no forests around us, sometimes poisonous snakes live in the bushes around. Sometimes there are different kinds of snakes living in burrows in the soil as well. But these types of snakes usually live in water. But all these types are very well known and are called by different names in our vernacular and are not that poisonous. From a very young age I see these snakes staying in the water. Especially when the holes are irrigated and fish are removed from them, it is found that these snakes are located under reeds or other aquatic plants. Even during the rainy season, such snakes can sometimes be seen when they go into the water, or when the water has reeds or other aquatic plants, these snakes stay under them.

I remember very well when I was very young I used to catch a lot of fish especially small fish. Although it was not my profession but an addiction. I remember once when I went fishing in knee deep water I was catching a lot of fish. But suddenly I brought a lot of fish from the hole but looked up and saw this kind of snake in one hand and bitten by it in the other hand. Although then in the water it bit my hand on the palm but there was no bleeding. Still I got very scared and immediately threw the snake far away. Honestly when I was young but I got a lot of fear and wondered if I would die from the snake bite but nothing happened because we know that after a venomous snake bite two teeth marks can be seen through which blood oozes out but no blood from my body. Nor had the bite teeth. That memory still haunts me and sometimes scares me.

Also during the rainy season, when the pits are formed around us, we often see different kinds of snakes. For example, a few days ago we saw a small snake in some bushes behind our house. Although the snake was small, it stayed dry. It hid from us. And later my father also saw this snake several times in our house and my wife also saw snake there. Sometimes we see such snakes around us but some of them are venomous snakes too. But one thing is that snakes get scared when they see us just as we get scared when we see them. Also sometimes see snakes around. Especially in the back part of our house there are few pits and big snakes are seen there because fishes are cultivated in those pits and big snakes are often seen there to eat those fishes. But when they see us, they quickly run away into the water or into the bushes.

But while other snakes are venomous, this snake is probably not venomous. Actually there are many small children in our village who are not afraid of these snakes but they play with them. In particular, I have some students who, when they come across such snakes when they go to catch them, they turn them around by the tail and sometimes they kill them. But as far as I remember when I used to fish as a child they were found in small nets. I probably caught these snakes by the tail a few times and threw them out of the net and occasionally made them dance with the tail. But not always. Not that I wasn't scared at the time but I would carefully hold their tails and make them sleep at will.

But when I saw it yesterday I was a bit scared. Then as I saw that this kind of snake is not that poisonous and also the head of this snake was not visible so I tried to take close photography. And also trying to shake it with a light object to make it pop out the head and see the head part. But it hid its head and when I tried to get a little closer it tried to run away. And they tried to hide under the dry leaves. Although I could have killed it if I wanted to but I didn't. Rather, I gave it a chance to escape. Later it jumped into the water as there was a small hole nearby.
